Reflections on a low tier TPG.....NNC, National Numismatic Certification

From the NNC homepage................

***NNC Coin Grading
National Numismatic Certification, LLC.
Numismatic experts for over 25 years

Certification of all US coins

Fast service and reasonable rates

Finally a coin grading company whose products and services meet the demands of both buyers and sellers.
NNC is an independent third-party coin grading service which does not buy or sell coins, nor does NNC appraise coins in terms of monetary value. National Numismatic Certification, LLC. cannot guarantee the liquidity of any coin graded by NNC. NNC certification of a particular coin cannot provide protection from the risks inherent in any market for such coins, if such a market exists.***

Their business model gives me the warm and fuzzies for sure.

An honest declaration by the NNC team:

***PLEASE NOTE: We apologize for any inconvenience. But, due to computer problems which caused a loss of some of our data, NNC will be unable to verify coins that were processed between December 15, 2006 through February 13, 2007. The information we will not be able to provide includes date, mint mark, denomination and grade. However, we can provide information regarding who originally submitted your coin for grading and the date it was graded.***

NNC Website

Now, I present an eBay example of their stellar grading principles.

Per PCGS G-4 Grade: Slightly worn rims, flat detail, peripheral lettering nearly full

Per PCGS Grade XF-40: Detail is complete with most high points slightly flat

    No market grading?

Is that G-4 a downgrade candidate?

I was under the impression that the owner of NNC does in fact sell coins. I guess it is under two different corporations.

They are both located in Florida right?

......And, the only other thing I know about NNC is that I will not buy any of them.

I have about five of these wonderful NNC graded Coins. I am sure they are worth a premium... I bought them from centsless before I realized they were crap and centsless was a joke. At least I was feeling cheap at the time and did not spend much.

I have learned quite a bit reading this board. Almost enough to quit collecting all together.... well at least be a lot more cautious.

By the way, anyone want to pay PCGS value for my high quality NNC slabs???? I hear they have become scarce on Ebay.image
  • thanks for the offer but no way.
after reading and seeing the diff. between the top 2, i stick with the top 1! period. if big money is envolved theres no questions asked under a few hundred i may take a chance. now mind you i am a collector first and investor second.

Are you a PCGS shill or just easily hoodwinked?

ahooka454, like you I am a collector first and investor second. I agree with you on sticking with the top one. I collected when I was younger and then put things away till recently. Now when I am looking I find everything is slabbed. How nice is that... Until you find out that not all slabs are equal! I am thinking I probably invested (yea I know, lost is probably the proper term) about $10-$20 (including shipping) for each of my NNC slabs. So I got away with a very inexpensive learning experience. Thank goodness that all of my quality coins reside with PCGS guarantees.

Nice quality coins don't last long if they're marketable, if they're ever found in those lesser known holders. This is likely the main reason why they can never establish themselves as competitive coin graders.
