What a bonanza for Matte Proof Lincoln collectors at this years FUN show

I just recieved the catalogue for this years fun show (It actually arrived in good condition due to them shipping it in a box now) and it is just chock full of high grade MPL's including the 1909 VDB in PR64BN and two 1916's in PR66RB. I wish I could afford a couple but I'm thinking they will go for moon money.image

  • MPL's have been picking up lately. At first I thought I was just fooling myself since there's so much attention paid to them on the forum, but the prices really have been moving.

all it takes is for a few forum members to fuss and fight over them
in an auction and the prices shall move...

coin collectors all dabble in such a small small world when it comes
    to auctions for quality coins.
  • I like the one 1916 that has the high bids right now, but the 09 vdb has to many spots for the cash. I think the matte's are still way under value.

How many people here started with the Lincoln cents, i think the prices now will be a bargain in a few months. All the others are nice but no real show stoppers.

    Actively looking for matte proof's.

    I agree, it's a beauty.
  • You know after looking at it pretty closely, I notice that the strike is a real stunner, but it has a few minor spots on it. I have seen nice 65's. Not alot of them but a few. All that cash for 1 point. Wow! It is nice though and I wouldn't mind having it. I am not trying to take anything away from the coin, just making an observation.

They certainly are either undervalued or other coins are over valued. Take the 1911-D Indian $2.5 gold for instance. While there is a total mintage of Proof '09 VDBs of 420 pieces, NGC has almost 400 of those Indians in MS64 alone and PCGS has 277. Between NGC and PCGS over 6,400 1911-D $2.5 Indians have been graded. In both price guides an MS64 1911-D Indian is listed at over $35,000. Although neither price guide has caught up with the MPL's, they are listed in Proof 64 at between $8500 and $21,000 ($8500 being brown) at PCGS and $6000-$10,000 at NGC with a total certified at both houses of 144 pieces. That number is certainly inflated due to re-submissions.
  • wow, that does make the mpl's look way undervalued.
