What happened to this Morgan?

Can anyone tell me what caused these marks on this 1904 Morgan?
Sorry for the picture not being of the whole coin but I don't have a camera.
This is a microscope picture.

Looks like the dentils from another coin were smashed into that coin somehow.

  • An Eagle, Redskin or Giant fan saw that Cowboy star and threw a Morgan dollar at you. It missed but hit that Morgan in the picture with its edge and created the indentation. image

Sorry I couldn't resist. I agree with Paul.

It looks like the marks are consistent with the spacing of morgan denticles like others have stated. But the terms is "denticles"... image

Thanks for all the replies, especially about a coin being thrown at me and missed and hit my morgan.
I can't help it if i was standing behind Jessica Simpson. But seriously, when you say denticles, do you
mean the edge of another coin? The distance between the raised portions is too wide for that.
The spacing is about the same as the eagle's feathers from the reverse.

I've seen hobby publications use both 'dentils' and 'denticles.'
  • yup, its the only thing i can think that would make that kinda mark. as to not being the same exact size, it may have been, i hate to say this word, mushed into the coin with some force.

as to the way to say the word denticals or dentile's, i always say denticls but think its like everything else in coins.

why would any one call a cud, a cud. cow spit. ewww.
