This was my highlight, It was a birthday present from the girlfriend (actually it was an ebay gift certificate, but it turned into this).

  • Nice cards!

Andy, have you thought about a crack and re-sub on that Mantle? Looks like it could be a 7 on a good day!

I doubt i will be getting rid of it anytime soon, so im in no hurry, but i do think it has an outside shot.

I would have to say this card. It received an 8 the first time around but has since been cracked and regraded a 9. It went with my last sub so hopfully it will show up in tomorrow's mail

  • My hobby highlight of 2007 is probably when I purchased a Kurt Abbott 2000 World Series game used bat, then come to find out that it was held by Derek Jeter. I got it off eBay over the summer for $75, then I found pics of Jeter holding the bat after Abbott shattered it in the 5th inning of Game 5 in the 2000 World Series. I've already recieved an offer of $300 for it, which I easily turned down.

That's cool. I grew up with Kurt. We went to school together, played in the same little league and were good friends.

Good thread. Mine would definitely be this group of modern junk from the same seller:

    $4.50 BIN

    image

    $3.50 BIN

    $4.50 BIN

    $3.00 BIN

I then picked this up from him, for the hefty sum of $40.

    Love it!

I already posted this on my "Official Santa got me cards" thread, but after nagging for nearly the whole year, I found this is my stocking:

    image

I've been slowly working on a nice NM raw set, and with this one out of the way I think I may try to focus all my collecting $$ in the new year on finishing the set.

  • Picked up these 2 for 10 bucks each off the bay. Nothing spectacular, but they are cards I always wanted in my collection, and I doubt they will ever leave.....

My highlight, though, was completing my 1955 Topps set with the '54 Bowman right behind it.

This year my hobby highlight was not any card or set, it was joining these boards and interacting with a lot of great guys. Happy holidays everyone.

Much appreciated but I have zero interest in cracking them. Both are for mostly raw sets in my personal collection, so it's not worth the effort.

But you are right, they probably would get the bump.

  • Slow year but business really picked up over the past 2 months. An amazing finish to 2007.

    Have a great holiday, everyone.

I've deff. made several great pickups. Maybe the best buy for me this year was an '89 UD pack for $3 that yielded a Griffey, Jr...
I put it in my freebies for joining PSA, and it came back a 10. Sooo, an '89 UD Griffey PSA 10 for $3 is hard to beat.

... but, by far me best hobby highlight for 2007 would have to be my Sabo registry. It finally got put on the grid earlier this year,
and I've managed to take it to 100% complete. I've added several cards to the registry, and won a registry award for each of my sets.

ALWAYS Looking for Chris Sabo cards!

  • I am mostly a lurker on the board, just cuz I know what the majority of you are talking about, and enjoy good ol' banter of the masculine variety (my wife gets doe-in-headlights on any topic that interests me other than politics), but I did have a hobby accomplishment this year. Several years ago, at a sports card national that was held in St. Louis (eons ago), I got an 1982 Orioles team signed ball. I also found someone at that same show that was selling autographed cards of utility players and got the majority of the players who had signed the ball and the majority of them were sigs from the 82 or 83 season (some from the 81 year). I had 6 extra to get: Brooks Robinson, Jim Palmer, Earl Weaver, Eddie Murray, and Cal Jr. -- all the HOF guys on the ball. This past year, I was only missing the Cal autograph and wanted to get a vintage sig that was signed about the same time that the ball was signed. I finally got a 1983 Donruss (oversized card) of Cal that the sigs match up pretty good. I was able to get the Cal card in November of this year and I got the Murray earlier in the year. Now, my only task is to scan all the cards and match them all up. That's about it.

  • Ironmanfan,
I also went to that National in St. Louis- I want to say it was 1994 or 1995. First and only National I've attended to this day and I couldn't believe the sheer amount of stuff that was being tossed around. I was about 18 at the time and I could remember 86/87 Fleer packs being busted, a guy with a showcase full of Marino RCs (must've been at least a couple hundred, one of which I bought), complete 93 Finest refractor sets..... This was a far cry from the Maryland hotel shows and flea markets I was used to.

I guess my biggest hobby highlight of '07 was early October when I finally started collecting another sport (football) besides baseball. For an early Christmas present, my wife let me spend $400 to start my Topps football run with 1983-91. Let's hope I can get it to at least 1980-99! image

  • I didn't do alot this year in cards. I was mostly concentrating on non sports (garbage pail kids), 80's GI Joes, G1 Transformers.

My best pack pull was this Gretzky, I havent opened much early 80's hockey, so that was cool.

  • I guess my card hobby highlight would be passing 1000 in different Steve Young cards. In my meteorite hobby I guess putting together a fundraiser that raised over $12,000 for Greensburg, Ks. The town that was destroyed by a tornado, which has a strong meteorite tie with the Brenham meteorite.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
