My guess is the coin will likely show up at a public auction. There are many folks seriously interested in this coin.
I believe the highest price an Ike has sold for (not including the Unique pattern Ike or possibly a super rare error or two) is $20,160 for the one and only 1976-S Ty 1 Ike in PCGS-PR70DCAM. Will a pop 1 or 2 Mint State Ike exceed the $20,000 level anytime soon?

I bet the 71-S will top $20K easily with the 72-S's obviously less.
Looking for Denmark 1874 20-Kroner. Please offer.
<< <i>the big question is who the fool will be that pays the "jump" from 67 to 68 and 68 to 69. don't get me wrong, i collect the series and look at lots of coins, but this is just another example of the kind of stuff that gives Moderns a black-eye and causes such angst in non-Modern collectors. >>
I would have to see the coin before making any foolish cost statements. It may be an absolutely awesome coin worth every penny. PCGS has been slow to award this grade for obvious reasons if you've ever spent anytime going through the 1971-S Business strike coins. Nice unblemished examples were impossible to find until this one showed up and you could bet your paycheck that lots of PCGS folks have looked at this one.
I can understand James trying to find out who the owner may be since he does have the top registry set and this would certainly be a nice addition.
I must admit that I am really curious as to who owns this one though. Seems to me that all the big IKE collectors would not be in the least bit shy about admitting ownership or in relating where this one was found.

When the 1974-S Silver Ike (pop 2) became available a few years ago I traded the owner my Landcruiser vehicle (that is what he wanted and I wanted the coin) for the coin (I sell one grade under 1974-S coins for less than $100 nearly every week). I handled both of those pop 2 1974-S coins and this piece was the best of the two coins I believe - a super quality MS69 specimen. I have the coin to this day (but my wife does miss the Landcruiser). And, even if the coins becomes pop 3 or pop 4 or pop 5 one day, this coin is ALL THERE for the MS69 grade.
On the other hand, if the coin had been marginal for the grade (i.e. a liner), I would have had no interest in it.
It's all about the coin!!

If they say it is MS-68 ; then by GOD it is MS-68 .
And, these jumps are typical across all series. Classic coins are even no exception at times. Heck.. didn't we just see a $90,000 1941-S Walker in MS67 cross the auction block recently?
But, I repeat....
If the coin is killer quality for the next highest grade, in many cases I am "in". If the coin is "marginal" for the top pop grade, as so many are, I agree with you Keets that the one grade under coin in PQ quality is the way to go in many cases.

Personally, I don't see this particular IKE commanding more than 10 grand tops.
Well, maybe just a smidge more comparing it to the 78-D in MS67.
