Holding coins back for a set

Two days ago two people updated the Copper, Nickel and silver Type set. Today, half of the set holders did. How many people buy coins and then hold them back until someone makes a major break, before updating your set? I had three and held and then updated the set when everyone else did.

  • A while back I had several coins coming. I wanted to spread them out to prolong the joy of seeing an updated icon next to my set. I was unable to hold out and posted them all at once. This because I was losing ground while everybody else updated.
  • For me personally, I add a piece as soon as I have the certificate number in my possession. Then, when it arrives, I scan it, add the scan and description to the set, and then add it to my Access database.

Others upgrading might spur me to upgrade, but I don't hold anything in reserve.

I agree, as soon as I have my new coin, I want to get my set updated.

I couldn't hold out very long...

In the Mercury Dime Registry if you don't put your coin in immediately you will be eating someones Dust as he goes by you. Number in hand,Coin in Set. Last Friday 12 Sets were Up-Graded.Page was Red.image

I tried holding a couple in reserve once. It was depressing
when people upgraded faster than me and I had to use up
my reserves just to keep up.

I haven't tried holding back since then. image

Geeze, listen to yourselves. You sound like gambling addicts. Isn't coin collecting supposed to be fun. All anyone talks about is owning a slab with the highest number and who is winning this race.

  • I'll sometimes make 3 or 4 purchases without updating my set, but then I start getting that urge and can't hold back any longer!

  • I am still trying to figure out how, by adding (4) PR69DCAM Kennedy's to my Proof Registry set, I went from 26th place to 42nd place? This development baffles me? Any insight would be appreciated.

  • That is easy robbnsc, they multiplied your average grade of 68.55 by .96 complete and came up with ---- 0 !!!! You need to send them an email to notify them of this new math.
  • I did send them an EMail. So far, they are ignoring me. One can only hope that this latest in a string of oddities with this set and PCGS can be worked through. This set is snakebit!!! I have been told that some upgrades were double listed (in someone else's set). The last one was misgrading, where 2 of my PR69DCAM's were "no graded" according to PGCS (the slabs said PR69DCAM). They had no record in their database on my coins. I have had to send them scans of the coins to prove my assertions. I hold my breath now when I upgrade. Someone up there is trying to tell me to not finish this set, and I only have 2 coins left!

I've only held back once. I wanted to put on a surge when the 2001 coins were allowed in. I had at least 5 upgrades with 2001s, and had held back some others I bought in the month or so before my surge.

I never hold back and has been stated before, the Mercury set will push you to the back quickly if you are dormant long. I like to think that we are inspiring each other to work on our sets.

I have been working diligently and adding regularly (as a budget will allow!) and I am still fighting to get back to 19th place. But you know, it doesnt bother me at all becuase I know many of the people who are adding and feel good for them. I was offered a coin by the individual who just passed me... so we are good sports I do believe!

And I am Not an Addict, I am Not and Addict, I can stop anytime... I know because I stopped for 10 minutes again today...
