Unidentified cash coins - Got any ideas? (Large File)

I recently got a group of cash that included some that I've not seen before. I can't seem to find them in any reference that I have. Can anyone help with their IDs?

  • DCH -

First question - What reference are you using?

Second question - Do you read Chinese and Manchu?

I'm asking because you IDed those coins so quickly. I spotted the Koreans as not being Chinese or Japanese, but wasn't sure if they were Korean or Annamese, and I had barely started in Fisher's Ding when your first response popped up. If you have a better English language reference than Fisher or Scjoth I need to get it. If it's your reading ability, I can't match up. After about 53 years of on/off study I still read less than 200 Kanji characters. I wouldn't even know where to start on Manchu. image

  • My primary reference is Hartill- Cast Chinese Coins Pub.2005 Link I've never used Ding or Scjoth so I can't compare, but its easy to use and the rubbings/drawings are mostly clear.

I don't read Chinese or Manchu, but I recognized most of the emperors and knew approximate dates from past experience. I recognized the Ho mintmark on #5 as Korean, and since the obverse of 5 matched #4 I made the assumption both were Korean.
  • Thanks for the tip on Hartil. image
