My Oldest Purchase 1763 Gold

I dont know much about foreign especially older Gold but this one seemed to have my name on it. It was cleaned in the past and has some other issues. But not bad for being 244 years old. I like it. Thanks to Mr Eureka for advice on what I was actually buying.

    Pretty cool purchase! image

I like Popayan coinage. What's the denomination on this piece?

2 Escudos ? It is a little larger than a US $5 Gold piece

Sorry, have no idea what a U.S. $5 measures image If it's 2 Escudos - the weight would be around 6.6-6.7 grams.

It weighs 6.7 grams or .23 oz
    Thanks

    Nice piece Mike image

Old circulated gold coins always make me wonder who's pocket/purse/bag/chest/teeth they've been in.
I would imagine this coin has most probably been back and forth across the Atlantic several times, been in possession by Kings, merchants and pirates.

How do you know it has been cleaned before. Does "dipping" mean the same thing as cleaning. Does dipping specifically refer to an acid bath?

It has uniform lines all running in the same direction on the surfaces. Not noticable to the uniaded eye but visible in certain picture angles or under magnification
