Does the obverse die to the 1817/4 correspond to any of the 1814 dies or is it an entirely different one that was never used in 1814?
Thanks as I always wondered.

I have my photobucket open so I have my 1806/5 O-104 handy. Great die marriage.
It really is amazing that this is the 3rd use of this obverse and the 5th use of this reverse.
Great looking draped Jrocco

Almost? It's like memorization of Bible verses from long, long ago. Go ahead, test me.
I've always liked that 104, John!

I do have a lot of questions if you have the time. I really like the 1814s
What would you consider a complete set of 1814s to include die states of the 9 Overtons?
Which states would you consider the rarest - such as 101'?
Which are the most under or overvalued (E/A lists as an R-1 but seems tuff to locate)?
What die was used to make the 1814 platinum?
O.102- Look for an example with no clash of Liberty in the shield, also look for examples with at least three clashes of Liberty both in the shield and under the right wing. Shows signs of rust on face w/brush marks from an attempt to remove
O.103- Look for the prime die state, another rare one, and unheralded. I once owned a PL w/no clashmarks, others certainly exist. Shows signs of rust on face w/brush marks from an attempt to remove.
O.104- Look for the prime die state, haven't seen one before; all seem to have a slight crack at star 3 and raised scribe lines below star 1.
O.105- It is theoretically possible that an unclashed example exists, but I've never seen one.
O.106- The EDS w/no reverse crack is a tough one.
O.107- I once owned a deeply PL prime. Overton's "a" may be unique; it's plated in the 1st ed. and is an early die state. The crack was shallow and when lapped off, it never reappeared. A curious feature of 107 is that different die states are slightly off center to different positions. Late state develop a chip at nose which started before the platinum coins were struck, but reached full bloom afterward. Very late states show a chip below the serif of 1. Shows signs of rust on face w/brush marks from an attempt to remove.
O.108- Look for an EDS w/full eagle's head; quite rare, but I found 2.
O.109- Look for an EDS w/no clashing.
I'll add more if anything significant comes to mind.
Thanks seemyauction - I am going to check it out now
