There's market grading and then there's this...

Let me start out by saying that I really like JJ Teaparty and I have no problems with them selling this coin. I have a problem with NGC grading the coin! I mean, I know about market grading, but this coin had a close encounter with a dang Brillo pad!

Classic example of very early silver getting a lot more slack for problems than newer coins.

And for $2700 less, this is a steal in comparison to the shiny "new" one:

At least that's my thinking if I were in the market for a type coin. image

I still believe that the same standards should be applied by TPG's to all coins 100% of the time. If your company won't grade cleaned coins, then no cleaned coins should be graded, regardless of how rare they are or how badly you want them in your company's plastic. If I had ever gotten a cleaned coin back from NGC in a bodybag, I would be upset that this coin got graded and mine didn't.

Now, Now, usually we always see the phrase "Lightly cleaned long ago." It always seems to be long ago.
This one says... "Lightly cleaned at one time." And it always seems to say "Lightly." But this one is different since it says at one time.

Of course it was lightly cleaned... then it was lightly cleaned again... and again... and again...

Nasty coin...I'd take it for melt.

This is a good example of why I think it's a little silly to have a variable policy on cleaned coins being slabbed- most coins from this time period will have been messed with at some point on some level. How many bust halves have you seen that you know without a doubt are 100% original? But many or most of these are still collectable and still worthy of authentication.

That being said, the example in this thread is pretty messed up... image

and to think the main two tpgs and cac were all started by the
same guys. i mean, who else can you trust if not these bunch of
folks who care about the hobby and not their retirement fund.

i feel so safe and assured this coin bubble will never burst with
folks like this in charge. i shall deem them experts and gush over
    them with thanks and praises.
