Depends. What's that crap behind Lincoln's head? I don't recall seeing that in the initial images when the coin was graded.

I still find it amazing that someone who knew what they were doing bought a truly original roll of 1969-S Lincolns and found that piece. What are the odds...

Agree, I think it will go above the 1926-s price!

Probably that is what is keeping the coin in a ms64 holder

That discoloration on the obverse doesn't knock it down to an RB?
  • WOW thats a nice coin. I wont give up my search, thats for sure. I think $137,000+. as to the (thing) behind Lincoln's bust, who knows. I would have to see it in hand, but its still a nice piece.
  • That's one PRETTY penny!

<< <i>The piece offered here, however, has no such story of confiscation and redemption. In fact, its history is essentially blank until October 3, 2007, when collector Michael Tremonti discovered the coin in a heretofore-unsearched roll of 1969-S cents. >>

I sure don't know Lincolns, I just see an error on a Memorial Cent going for the same price as two new cars. I'll have to buy some bank rolls! image

By the time it's done, it will be more like 4-5 new cars, perhaps...
  • Some day I'll find one of those in change! It would definitely make my day!
  • I look at that thing and just dont get overly excited. OK I bid, but still. When I see the same design in my pocket change all the time, it just doesn't...
The funny part is: When I was young, I thought so many 1969-S's looked like double dies. Maybe they were, and I spend them!!! image

    Yea, what is that mark???

Whatever that is on the obverse, interesting if it might it come right off with proefessional conservation? Should be a very interesting auction.

I have very little experience red copper, but IIRC the shape of the 'whatever' looks similar to the shape of the 'whatever' on the 1963PR70DCAM

TDN - I have not seen the coin in person. But, I have to wonder whether the "print" (or hue possibly caused by a breathe or other contaminent?) is very, very fresh - increasing the chances that it can be conserved (unlike the that 70DC cent that was a hopeless case - not to mention a Proof cent which is generally a tougher surface to work with)?

Once a few of the copper experts get a chance to actually see the coin, I would love to hear their opinions on the subject. This may be one of the few "six figure" modern coins out there today. A real prize either way.

Just went thru a roll yesterday. Closest I got was some slight machine doubling in the "LIBE" in Liberty. But that is common right?

Stewart was interested in this coin. Not sure there is a Lincoln Collector on earth that compares to him.

It's a nice coin but aside from the error I don't really find it that attractive. Are all of those hairlines from a cleaning or is it die polish?

Die polish. It's very common on Lincolns of that era.

Makes you want to go buy a few bags of 1969 S cents... Ebay

But, why so few? Did the mint catch these before they were released? I know the feds grabbed some, but I would think a few thousand might have escaped.
