Nope. The winning bid was my limit.

Oh and nice pickup. obviously none of the above.
You sure were a big hammer this time Andy....congrats.
<< <i>Smells like a shill to me....seems odd that someone else would just magically bid 17 cents less than you. That being said, how could they have known your maximum?? I guess they couldn't have, so nice pick up >>
Andy was the sniper. His bid came in a second *after* the underbid. This was just two snipers entering *very* similar bids, with Andy's being higher by 17 cents.

<< <i>My best guess is that the coin will grade 64. Of course it's a gamble. >>
I would ask you if you wanna bet, but you already did!
<< <i>Okay, I give up, what am I missing here? Regarding the coin and the price paid, not the bidding. >>
I suspect they think the coin will grade at least 63.

That's a heckuva gamble from those lousy pics. Good luck! Keep us posted

But... his bid should have been knocked out as not being enough of an increment over the earlier bid, right? Or was the high bid to beat the increment over the 191 bid?
Nice bit of luck either way, I had a similar situation a while ago where I won by 4 cents.

Just think if you or the other sniper didn't bid it would have gone for $200.

But for a $5 increment +$8.95 is as good as +$10.00. I usually add $7.77 so maybe it's time to reassess my #'s as well.
Normally bidding $780 for a raw coin that the seller says is worth around $195 is a stretch. Considering the seller has been on ebay for years with over 1000 transactions, I would hope he can tell an EF $2-1/2 Lib from a MS63 or 64. My guess is that it won't be unc.
But ya never know. The seller does offer a return priv but I personally feel it would be in bad taste to return the coin if it's clear it won't go at least 63. The seller was clearly upfront. And unless it's not at least EF45, the buyer should keep it.

Seller mentions XF-45... how do you know the Pic's are of the actual coin
Secondly you should never brag until you have the coin...
Note from seller now knowing it's undergraded - sorry to have to refund your money as the USPS lost the coin.
<< <i>Seller mentions XF-45... how do you know the Pic's are of the actual coin >>
If the coin the buyer receives is not the coin pictured and no usage of stock photos is mentioned, then the seller has misrepresented the item and thus it would be reasonable to return the coin.
How can anyone tell from these pictures that it hasn't been cleaned and will therefore BB?
I have recently cracked out 2 Saints graded ms 64 by PCGS that I viewed in person and was sure that one or both would upgrade.
They both came back in body bags marked altered surfaces.
I can't grade a coin from pictures, especially pictures like these, but there sure seems to be enough rub on the hair beneath the coronet to reinforce the sellers appraisal.
Andy, I do hope you're right and I'm wrong. Good luck with this one. Dave W

<< <i>Just plain luck. The other bidder could have picked the next increment over $780. I've been on both sides of the fence with no more than 5C separating me from the other guy on a $1000 coin.

Amateur. I once had a snipe for 1 cent over the underbidder with 2 seconds to go at eBay on a rare VAM Morgan.

Good luck! I hope the seller is wrong about the grade!
Let us know how it turns out.

Rightttttt
Someone is having a laugh on this board.
Stop it!
Could be the numismatic story of 2008 when it grades MS65*

Here's another one from the same seller. He called the coin XF to AU. I think we can safely discount his grading.
Doesn't mean I got a good deal. And remember, I had to pay my top bid. We'll see...
