Mckee Coins CHRISTMAS AUCTION & KAGIN VII-

What connection is there to the Kagin family? I continue to receive spam from these people and don't appreciate it.

Here's their website

McKee Coins-Kagin Auction

The "auction" is of course on ebay

But why post a link here.... after reading the thread title I thought you were promoting it.

How else to illuminate who it is? You think I would promote this garbage?

Do you know if there is a connection?

I've sent Don Kagin an email as well. This is not the first time I've received this from these people.

I've won some coins from their previous auctions, and since I'm now an "established customer" I get the same emails. I don't know anything about their conenction to anyone named Kagin, but I do know every coin I've won from them has been as described and accurately attributed.

  • McKee's coins in Iowa, is selling off the rather voluminous holdings of the late Art Kagin.

They are simply looking for bidders for low dollar material.

This was apparently commissioned by Don Kagin after his father passed.

Really? I stand corrected but am surprised nonetheless.

More stuff than Don Kagin wanted to handle himself I guess.

I think there must be a warehouse full of low valued stuff.

I have also gotten a few very nice items in the last few years

Kagin's were based in Iowa 30 years ago - not sure how McKee new them

I spent several thousand in their last round of auctions and was unhappy with about half of them.. after the auction closed I received a solicatation for material for their next set of auctions ( this one ) so one can only conclude this is not entirely holdings of Art Kagin .. also the lots I won were in old Mckee coin envelopes... lots of cleaned stuff being pushed off as BU .... stay away from any lot that says BU? .. I did win a lot advertised as a proof columbian half and came back from pcgs in a BB not a proof and altered surface.. but that's just my experence..

on the plus side I did get an original roll of 1945S warnickels of which I got 2 ms66 full steppers from and a 65FS

Yes, McKee is selling some of Art Kagin's estate.

Yes, the sales are not exclusively Art's stuff.

What's the big deal? You've seen every other auction company play the same marketing game with their big name consignors.

    Andy,
No big deal here. The subject came up and I was just sharing my experiences both plus and minus. I'm fairly new to these forums but I was under the impression that was the purpose ( sharing knowledge and experiences ) from what I saw the posts were leaving the impression that these were exclusively kagin coins and my experience with them indicated different... my satisfaction with the lots has been mixed both good and bad, which I shared without malace... I'm sorry if you took offense but I was just trying to contribute ...

Cmon Andy, Respect, that's what. Had I known it was even remotely real I would never start the thread. I have not seen every auction company doing this.

I saw enough of Kagin's auctions in the 70's. No need to revisit that again.
