Best of the Worst – Coming to A Bookstore Near You?

Another post gave me the idea of writing a hobby book about the worst experiences collectors and dealers have had in the business.
It would have anecdotes – intended to be somewhat humorous, or at least enough to make you shake your head – about strange, odd, puzzling and weird experiences with the psychos, nut cases, and paranoid that inhabit a small corner of the hobby.
(Maybe something titled ????"
Anyone with anecdotes or suggestions, chime it.
(If it’s a really stupid idea, say so, too! No feelings will be hurt.)

I would recommend that you leave the "stories" to "cocktail party conversation", conversation between dealers, between collectors, or amongst dealers and collectors, and in places like this forum.
That's just my opinion, of course, but I would not purchase such a book.
Could run into significant problems with a publisher though, because their legal department would have to scrub it
before publication. And, if you self-publish, you would definitely want to have an attorney specializing in publishing
take a look at it before publication, IMHO.
Of course, it all depends on how it is written...

<< <i>I do not like the idea. I read the FUN Topics quarterly (?) magazine, and they have feature in which a B&M dealer lists funny or bizarre anecdotes from life at the store. At first, I was amused and drawn to the series of articles. Then, after a while, either they were reaching for material or I became jaded as the anecdotes were starting to become not-so-funny and sometimes demeaning and mildly offensive. Remember, too, in these anecdotes, the reader often learns only one side of the story.

I have to side with the distinguished Mr. RYK. It is very easy for this book to be taken the wrong way, and a lot of what you built up with stellar, serious research could unfortunately be jeopardized.

P.S. GREAT idea!!

I recommend you go ahead and collect the stories anyway. It might make for a good article in the right context. Not sure the idea would carry a whole book tho.

I recall a book advertised about 10 years ago (maybe longer) called True Confessions of a Coin Dealer, or something like that. I tried to locate a copy a few years ago, but with no luck.

I remember a book called Secrets of a Coin Dealer. Is that what you were thinking?
