Now, for the sad tale...................
For anyone who doesn't know, I collect Medals/Exonumia in addition to regular U.S. Coinage and about six months ago I bought an eight-piece set of So-Called Half-Dollars still in the old Wayte Raymond page that they'd probably been in for about 30-40 years. Some had faint "lingerie" tone but I suspected that there might also be some PVC residue. My idea was to have the set sequentially holdered by NGC so I first sent them as one order to NCS with the follow-up at NGC, then I stuck the old holder in a bag in the bank box. That was back in early October.
My one and only apprehensive thought in the whole process was that one or more might BB and spoil my plan. Remember, this isn't some high priced Numismatic treasure, just an attractive set of medals with interesting designs/themes that I sought to protect with the holders while adding some uniformity. I only paid $20 for them raw and substantially more for the conservation and slabbing, but the money wasb't the object, just the nice, intact set of medals that I liked.
So in the end my worst fear came true and one item will end up in an NCS holder!!!! Geez, I can't even be sure which one it is yet since NGC attributed them differently than what my notes read, but it seems to be the Confederate States Half-Dollar. Oh, well, perhaps I can find a substitute one day for missing relative and get NGC to do twin Multi-holder 4x4's. What's to lose, right, I'm already in way past my head!!!

Sounds like me at the singles club.
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
<< <i>"lingerie" tone is an expression i picked up from an old timer which he used to describe the soft, almost imperceptible pastel color that some coins acquire. the look is similar to what you might get from looking through a very fine fabric, something like sheer curtains hanging in a brightly lit window. >>
Yeah, don't you hate it when all that "stuff" gets in the way of what you really want to have a look at?
