1815/2 Capped Bust Half ~~ Grade Opinions

Here is an ANACS graded 1815/2 (O-101a) CBHD with a slightly rotated reverse die. What grade would you have put on the slab if you were the grader. Simply looking for some various opinions. Thanks for taking a looksee. image

  • VF-30 was what ANACS graded it but Stu Keen felt it was a little undergraded. The way the market is now I think it's a certain 35 or a borderline/lightly struck 40.

  • I wonder how or if this would grade at pcgs?

  • Nice looking 101A. I'd give it a VF-35/EF-40 anyday.

    Bill,

Your 1815 is probably a VF30, details only. But I'm skeptical that PCGS would grade it, because of the rim nick(gouge). Maybe a 25, and cover the nick up.

Ben's may grade higher than a VF 30, but a close call.

But, PCGS has not been as hard on the lower circ grades vs the higher MS grades. They can't get hurt, because of the small exposure.

    Thanks, Dale.

Some coins are just best left raw. This 1815 is one of them.
Back on the wall it goes.

Regarding the OP's coin, my guess is VF30 details (cleaned)
    When in doubt, don't.

My initial impression was VF 30 but that the strike is a factor. Depending on the condition of the surfaces and the amount of mint luster, she may do better, but not @ pcgs.
