I can not see how this set available still from the mint at 1954.90 is BID up to 2099.00 and beyond as well as the ever-present Buy It Nows...

Why not? Only 1 per household.
Not everyone has money laundering techniques that enable them to have 20 different credit cards with 20 different addresses/names image

I think anything under $2100 is not smart to sell it out, due to fees.

You have to remember, if you were around watching at the time, that when the 20th Annv SAE sets came out, limit 10, they were still available from the mint but also selling for $150+ on ebay (I sold 3 sets for $160 each on ebay within weeks of them coming out).
People who paid that $150 or so were the ones laughing when the sets hit $300-$400+ opened....

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

May be crazy buying any,(myself included) but if people want more than one or several and do not have other sources, why not pay alittle extra

Betcha they lift the order limits at least a little bit before sellout.

It depends on how many they actually made. I find it hard to believe that they made 30000.
  • all i know is im happy with my first fresh from the mint product. well see if the rattle around and get marks on them. if not and they grade a 70..... who knows...

Well, that was my point as well - the ordering limit was probably to be lifted and therefor folks could save the 150 pesos. I do hope that these coins do not end up rattling in the case as I was one of those fools that ordered one..

  • People are paying a premium on eBay to increase the odds of getting a perfect set or sets, obviously the more sets you send in the better your chance. Also, not everyone knows you can order straight from the Mint, though I would think that would be the minority for the platinum issues. Why would the Mint will lift the one-per-household limit? The set is selling exactly as they and I had expected with more than half of the maximum mintage having been sold in the first week. I still believe the set will be a sellout before the end of the year, even if it fails to sellout by the end of the year I don't see why they would need to change the order limits which would allow more speculators to order the sets which is exactly what they wanted to avoid. Once the sets start shipping a sellout should follow.

they can adjust the limit it after 7 days at their discretion...which i doubt they will

I don't recall the Mint ever adjusting the limit. Even for the Silver Anniv. Set, which took for ever to sell out.

  • the silver eagle set? that took forever and now sells for a very descent premium now? with a minatage of what 250,000? yea im glad i got my set at 12:15 p.m. for only the mints hefty premium.

first platinum buy, i think will be wise...

Maybe those are dummy auctions to artificially boost the price. Has anyone ever kept an eye on them to see if the transactions are actually consummated, if feedback is left or if both parties mutually agree not to complete the transaction. I know the smart parties in a contrived listing would make sure that no one could find out.

The fact that these are taking so long to sell out leads me to question how hot they will be in the aftermarket. I know the ASE set took a bit of time, but there were lots more of them and they were 1/20th the price.

  • all i keep thinking is what if it comes back a 70? whats the price then? i figured id rather take a shot that sit by and watch, again...

I think the PCGS First Strike® PR70's will do very well in the aftermarket regardless. The amount of time it takes for the set to sellout will mostly affect the PR69 values.

I have mine on ebay for$3350. I don't care if it sells or not. If someone buys it I hope they get a 70. If not, then I will find out if its a 70 because as soon as I get it,it will be off to PCGS.
  • i cant stand the first strike designation. i know i am young and not as experianced as some here, but if it was a true first strike it would be pulled out of the prod. run and i would believe the mint would mark them as such. i think of the early gold with raised die hairlines. discounted price, sure. if it has those id think that more than anything would call for a first strike. modern coins designated as first strikes because of the day they were shipped and the packages dated at a certain date have no premium value to me whatsoever. a 70 is a 70 and a 69 is a 69. i like the 69 first strikes thought. youd figure that if any coin had a shot at a first strike would be a 70. with modern i dont see the real value in the 70 premiums being paid for right now.

granted i would like my plat. set to grade 70 first strike. i would not go out and buy a first strike. i am not trying to take away or diminish anyones sets but this is my opinion.

i think as a whole we are to focused on whats the holder, even for the new stuff.

30,000 sets, outta how many coin collectors? i think a wise buy in any grade it gets. aslong as its above a 69...

  • My order from 12:13 on the first day, just became 'In stock and reserved', so I should have it in by next week! Once the sealed sets are listed on eBay the price will go up image

If you are going to spend that much money on a coin and don't understand the process or that you can buy direct from the mint, then they deserve to pay more!
PEACE! This is the first day of the rest of your life.
