I went to the New Orleans Mint today to view a traveling exhibit called "Gold".
Unfortunately, they did not allow cameras in the Gold exhibit. They had a large number of early gold on loan from the ANA, including a beautiful 1907 high relief double eagle and several 1795 gold coins. They also had a number of coins from the SS Central America shipwreck, including The Eureka Bar which is 80 troy pounds. There was also a large amount of nugets, gold dust, flakes and rocks with gold ore in them, and a large amout of artifacts from all over they world made from gold. Things like pots, earrings, nose rings, helments, statues.
Anyway, here are some pictures from the parts of the mint where I was allowed to take pictures.

You have a better picture of it, it would be great on my counterfeit detection website!

Thanks.

I have read that the gold exhibit will be there only into January.
mhammerman and ClarkofKenttook some photos in the Spring of 2005 (pre-Katrina), linked in the threads. From what I have also heard/read, the Mint has been reopened, is in fine condition, and is look for coin loans/donations for exhibits.
Thanks for the thread Mercury...this is great!
My main goal for the trip back yesterday was to see the Gold exhibit. I was dissapointed that cameras were not allowed as I planned to take lots of pictures to share here.
The exhhibt will be at the New Orleans Mint through January 2.
