Help ID'ing CANADA New Brunswick Silver piece

She's seen better days, but still looks nice. All I can tell is the 18 and the last digit looks like a 4. The edge is reeded, and the size is precisely that of a US Dime. Can someone provide CVs for various conditions? Should I clean this coin to try and get a clear date, or just leave her as is! It's definitely a Silver piece - I need help figuring whether it is a 5, 10, or 20-cent. Many thanks!

If it's the same size as a US Dime, and your numbers are correct, it is an 1864 10-Cent Piece. My 1800's Krause is a few years old, but the lowest grade it listed was VG-8 as $35.00 US. The 2006 Charlton has VG-8 at $75 Canadian.

I'd call it about an AG based on the reverse, not sure what happened to the obverse though. Worst case scenario, you have about $1.00 in silver there image

The damamge appears to have come from a fire. I saw a silver quarter do this very same thing in an arson case we were working. The quarter was on the floor, beside the couch, that had accelerant thrown on it. Kinda intersted on where this coin came from! You never know the history of a coin!
As for the coin its self, a 10 cent New Brunswick piece will weigh 2.32 grams and have a diameter of 17.91mm. a 5 Cent piece will weigh 1.16 grams and have a diameter of 15.49mm. Going out on a limb I'll say it is a 1864 New Brunswick 10 cent piece (Since you can see the 18 and part of the 4 - only one that fits is a 1864). Charllton (Candian Coin Book) list the value of a Good-4 at $65.00. Before you do anything to the coin I would try to find out the history of where it came from and why it may be burned? If you can't find out history maybe an acetone bath to loosen some stuff off it.
