She's seen better days, but still looks nice. All I can tell is the 18 and the last digit looks like a 4. The edge is reeded, and the size is precisely that of a US Dime. Can someone provide CVs for various conditions? Should I clean this coin to try and get a clear date, or just leave her as is! It's definitely a Silver piece - I need help figuring whether it is a 5, 10, or 20-cent. Many thanks!

I'd call it about an AG based on the reverse, not sure what happened to the obverse though. Worst case scenario, you have about $1.00 in silver there

As for the coin its self, a 10 cent New Brunswick piece will weigh 2.32 grams and have a diameter of 17.91mm. a 5 Cent piece will weigh 1.16 grams and have a diameter of 15.49mm. Going out on a limb I'll say it is a 1864 New Brunswick 10 cent piece (Since you can see the 18 and part of the 4 - only one that fits is a 1864). Charllton (Candian Coin Book) list the value of a Good-4 at $65.00. Before you do anything to the coin I would try to find out the history of where it came from and why it may be burned? If you can't find out history maybe an acetone bath to loosen some stuff off it.
