Both of them are certified, one by PCGS the other by NGC.




I could not capture the luster of this coin..limited skills.

Mind you, I would love to have either coin, but....

The PCGS coin looks like the toning is AT. Kinda 'sits on top' of the coin, don't know how else to describe it.
The cameo 'frost' on the NGC coin reflex too much. Could be the lighting, as you state....limited skills.

Anyway, I could see a MS65 & PF64Cam

The top(PCGS) coin is in an AU55 holder?? I bought this coin raw for $60.

The NGC coin is a MS63PL which did not cross at 63 awhile back. again? In hand the coin does look like a proof.

My guess would have been AU 58 and Proof Cameo 61, of course it's damn near impossible to tell from a photo.

You got a screaming deal on the PCGS 55 - Dick Osburn has had a PCGS 55 for sale at $175 for months.. The 1878 is very hard to find and rarely comes up for sale.

the 1878 is a very uncommon "common" date. Much harder to find than you may think.

Both your coins are type II reverse which is about 2.5x as common as a type I.

While the PL coin is very cool and unusual it is 100% not proof. The date placement is off.
