My 22 dollar 1972 Type 2 Ike. Just got it. Any grade opinion------UPDATE GRADE BACK

I called today and I was informed this Coin made it into a MS-63 Slab. Not bad for a 22 dollar pickup. NCS did a preserving of the coin. I have not see the coin yet but I was told it was mailed back today and I should have it in hand by Wed.

Thanks to all with suggestion of NCS. I did not think it would make it into a slab.

Ok here is my big rip. I won this on the bay the other day Listed as 1972 type 11 and I got if for $22 and shipping and handling. Here are the pictures. The coin has great luster. There are some spots on the reverse that are most likly corrosion of some kind. However, this is a tough coin in nice shape.

Can this coin make it into a slab (Quality top tier Slab)?

I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it. I prefer you said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand to post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!

I've never submitted one with that kind of corrosion on it and IF it graded, I'd venture anwhere between 58 and 62. It does look like it has great luster but almost looks wiped? It could just be the photograph.

Can you get a clearer shot?

Really too bad about those corrosion marks, I know from experience that they just don't come off. Almost like someone blew on the coin many years ago and then put it away.

Its a Type 2 so you might want to consider sending it in on your next Modern Submission. It can't hurt and if they don't grade it, we'll know why. Besides, weren't you looking for a Type 2 for your Album? This would be a nice one.

  • Some months ago I submitted ike 1972d's that looked great but i missed the small corrosion. Ngc body bagged em as "environmental damage"... I dont think pcgs or ngc will grade yours.....

    Nice coin!
I'd send it to NCS/NGC and think you could end up in a 64 NGC holder!image

It'll cost you $32 to do it, but you would still end up ahead...even if it did come back in a AU holder.

NCS has taken worse stuff than that off of some of mine.
    Good Luck!

This was listed as a Type 2 and you got it for only $22?

    Russ,
Yep,...All of the Ike "Hawks" missed it because it was listed as a Type 11image
Nice coin and I really think NCS can "fix" or "conserve" the problems. (JMHO)

No Russ, it was listed as a Type 11 (Type eleven) which is why the IKE nuts missed it! image

Great score for the OP though! image

Ok, I will be the mean one. My grade guess is MS62. image Nice coin and congrats on the fantastic score. Let us know how it turns out if you submit it.
  • MS-64 no, 61 or 62 seem more in line if not cleaned.
  • I want everyone who provided me with feedback to know I am thankful. I went to my B&M shop today and he is a NGC shop. He is sending the coin to NCS and then hopefully to get slabbed. I will let you all know when it comes back.

    Thanks again

Wow, good luck. Looking forward to the results.
  • I know I would screw up this post. Sorry BECOKA I messed up. I did get the results back and it slabbed a MS-63. NCS conserved the coin. I will be getting the slab on Wed.

    Sorry for confusion.

    Way to go!!!!!
Not a bad price for a NGC MS63 Type 2!image

Sure, you had to do a little running around and waiting,...but it was well worth it.
NCS can really fix (I mean, conserve)...a LOT of problem coins. I use them fairly often.

    Thanks for the update!
