You scooped board member Michigan twice so far today. Is it a slow day at the office?

I am not terribly busy and can always use more business, in case any readers are long on money and short on coins. I am certain that I will do more retail business in the store this year, but the holiday buyers here in Silver Spring don't spend money on rare coins. They spend money on stocking stuffers, for the most part.
In case I forget, Happy Holidays to all!!!!!!!!!!

sorry about the theft of your coins. its always disgusting to hear of crimes like these. i hope you get back your inventory and they catch the FING SCUMBAGS that did this.
we as a society have forgotten what the meaning of CHRISTMAS is. ohno the aclu is calling. the meaning of the holiday season. sorry.
i dont understand these actions. i worked for a living and got hurt. i still dont steal. people like this should be made an example of in the center of town and have their hands removed. violently...
The numismatic marketplace is constantly changing. Numismatics will always be a luxury, as well.
Consequently, I price my inventory, at retail, at all times, but always consider serious offers.
I also do wholesale business with other dealers and sometimes purchasers that are making an extremely large purchase, but there are no percentage guidelines for these. Some sell for 2% less than retail. Some sell for half of retail.
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

<< <i>and incidently that is just for pcgs graded coins, many of your coins are raw or ngc. >>
I'd sooner buy a Julian graded raw coin than a TPG graded coin from many of the dealers out there. You do realize he's a member of the PCGS panel of experts?

There was a witness on the same floor as Barry's suite;
he saw the three very large men breaking in with a
crow-bar, and hid in another office down the hall, and
called 911.
The alarm system did work, but they were in and out in
about 5-7 minutes. After using the crow-bar again on the
vault-room door, they quickly grabbed the 133 rolls of dollars and fled.
Yesterday, 18 of the rolls were recovered from a LA coin shop, and
the person arrested. He claimed that he won them in a poker game
over the weekend.
In the parking lot of the coin shop were 2-3 friends, but I'm not sure
if they were part of the robbery crew, or just some buddies........

Where are these nice rolls of Morgans when I come around knocking? I'm sure I could pull a number of nice VAMs from 35 '83-O and 10 '78-S rolls.

<< <i>Didn't see Fred's reply before mine. Looks like they're making progress on this one and may get the perps. Barry needs a professional vault room. A crowbar shouldn't be able to breach it. >>
Had the same thought.

I was thinking the same thing. He also needs to add a high decibel ear bleeding inducing audible alarm. That's the only thing that kept my loss to a mininum when my shop was burglarized. Silent alarms are ineffective because the scumbags know they can be in and out before the cops arrive.

The person arrested had his girlfriend in the car, not 2-3 other men.
He is currently in Jail, and has not only admitted to being one of the
people who actually broke into the office, but has reportedly named
his other two accomplices. That's good news.
Both the male and female were very nicely dressed; the male in
a suite and tie.
Not a bad situation at this point in the week......

A friend of mine with LAPD called me on Sunday afternoon about this and basically told me if anyone was offering coins to me- to let him know- I just finished having lunch with him- seems that they do know where the other 2 are at and are in the proverbial process of a bust.
The sad thing is - the area that Barry is in- is not all that bad- but response time on a Saturday night! He needs more than a vault- I'm thinkin more in the line of a aids infested pit bull male that has not had any in a few weeks.....
at least they picked the good stuff from Barry.
<< <i>an aids infested male pitbull? wow sounds like something i would say. very nice idea. >>
Only if he is also continuously high on crack too.

I'll keep my eyes open.
Where were the good coins hidden?? Sounds like these were sacrificial lambs to protect the real stuff.
I like the high decibel audio deterrent that Russ recommended. Crooks and high decibel noises go together like a cat into hot water. They just don't mix well.

Sorry to think of myself but this story just reinforces my wife's argument that I must buy security cameras among the many other thing I must to do increase security around our house and also around our coin business. At least our valuable coins are stored off site in a secure location. But I admit that is not enough and I will (New Year's resolution #1) improve security soon!
maybe a hand or two in a meat grinder. that sounds like it would teach those scum a lesson!!!
cant wait to show the wife that one in the morning...
really nice post there lakes...
adam
That must be one helluva of a cash game they have going somewhere.
that would have taken much too long.
The 133 Rolls of dollars were in the Vault Room, but not in the safe.
All coin dealers keep coins in the VR, that are too bulky, or not valuable
enough, to fit into one, two, three, or more safes.
