Personally I've had 21% bodybag. Most of my bodybags were for two reasons: Altered surface and Cleaned. Guess I'm not adept at grading yet! Many of these coins have been in my possession for 40 years or more and some I got were already cleaned but they were nice examples that retoned. Oh well, that doesn't fly at PCGS! Several Morgans were Altered surfaces for being thumbed, I suspect. One was not genuine and I suspected that. It was a '09s IHC. One was bb'd for defective planchet. Total 60 coins sent in and 13 BB's. My percentage is dropping as I learn the art of grading. Collecting is one thing and I've enjoyed that for decades. Grading is another critter! I'm not unhappy with the results as I've learned a ton and I'm sure that it will help me going forward. I'm only 20 years late to try to learn the nuances of grading! bob

Yes, the dreaded altered surfaces. I've found several of my altered surface bodybags have minute, short hairlines visible only at an extreme viewing angle under strong magification; they've been wiped.
My percentage for classic coins is probably 20%+. Some Morgan vams have to be tried, even if you know they'll probably bodybag. The PCGS holder adds so much value it's more than worth trying. The only ones I avoid sending are those obviously messed up or AT that have no chance of holdering. And I don't feel anyone has an absolute handle on what PCGS will or won't slab in advance. Repeated attempts can work to get a coin slabbed, but increase the bodybag percentage.

Some of my greatest grading lessons have come from studying my bodybagged coins.
