I guess the market will determine the value, not you. While I myself am not going to pay high dollar for un ultra high grade modern, others are doing so.
Just think, in 1900 people may have scoffed at those who collected high grade Indian Cents, Liberty Nickels, Barber Dimes/Quarters/Halves, Morgan Dollars, and gold coins. If it were not for people preserving these in high grade, we would have far fewer high end examples available today.

Now we've got millions and millions of each date saved, most of which are in pretty good shape. So there will be enough nice coins to meet any conceivable demand and then some, not counting the tiny minority of registry set folks.
