1953 Farthing

Pics enclosed I hope. This appears to be the 2-a variety in Proof. This is the best pics that I can get at this time, sorry. Any comments. I saw it listed the other day as very rare, but I can't find the listing now. Any value?

Yes that's the one, Freeman rates it at R9 and gives the 2006 value in FDC at £120. They usually go for £40 -60. I brought a couple from the States for a few dollars and sold them on on ebay.

A forum member named "Farthing" identified it for me, something about the "I" in farthing was between the dentricle's? I'll try to find it and post a pic.......It was in the Red boxed proof set, i think i paid aroud 120.00 for the set, the box is in excellent shape. Which Earthing said that was rare in itself.

this variety has both the f in farthing and the cross over lizzy's head between the dentrils not pointing at the dentrils. This is the rare one. olmanjon

Rare can be a bit subjective. The mintage for the 1953 proof sets was 40,000 of which approx 10,000 will have the 2+a farthing. Ok so 10,000 is not a lot, but proof sets tend to be collected and not circulated so most of them are still around..... in FDC condition.

Gazza you said that Freeman rated it as a r-9. In morgan dollars that would be unique. What does it mean as far as the farthing. Thanks
