NEW YORK -- Roger Clemens denied allegations by his former trainer that he took performance-enhancing drugs, calling them "a dangerous and destructive shortcut that no athlete should ever take.''
I want to state clearly and without qualification: I did not take steroids, human growth hormone or any other banned substances at any time in my baseball career or, in fact, my entire life.
--Roger Clemens, in a statement issued by his agent.
The accusations against the seven-time Cy Young Award winner from his former trainer, Brian McNamee, were contained in last week's Mitchell report. Former Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell said McNamee said he injected Clemens with steroids in 1998 while with the Toronto Blue Jays, and steroids and human growth hormone in 2000 and 2001, while with the New York Yankees.
"I want to state clearly and without qualification: I did not take steroids, human growth hormone or any other banned substances at any time in my baseball career or, in fact, my entire life,'' Clemens said Tuesday in a statement issued through his agent, Randy Hendricks. "Those substances represent a dangerous and destructive shortcut that no athlete should ever take.
"I am disappointed that my 25 years in public life have apparently not earned me the benefit of the doubt, but I understand that Senator Mitchell's report has raised many serious questions. I plan to publicly answer all of those questions at the appropriate time in the appropriate way. I only ask that in the meantime people not rush to judgment.''
Another McNamee client, Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte, said last weekend that he took HGH twice while rehabbing from an injury in 2002. Mitchell said McNamee told him he injected Pettitte with HGH two-to-four times that year.
Baseball players and owners didn't have an agreement banning steroids until September 2002. They banned HGH in January 2005.

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

Maybe they can get Roger for plagerizing Michael Vick's statement---" I plan to publicly answer all of those questions at the appropriate time in the appropriate way. I only ask that in the meantime people not rush to judgment. I'm not the bad man you have all made me out to be''.
It's like De Ja Vu all over again.
<< <i>I believe him. >>
You believed Bush too.
<< <i>I still do, S.A. Hahahahaha. >>
You will always proclaim you do, but deep down you know better.
<< <i>No, actually, deep down I'm perfectly set and fine with my convictions. I also get along perfectly well with the resident BDS'ers at work. We can't talk politics or religion, so we fill in the gaps with plenty of irreverent sexual innuendo. >>
Well that's good to hear, it means you still have room for growth.
<< <i>I was thinking the same thing, but I'd prolly better not. >>
Yeah, Carol Jello might get mad
--Roger Clemens, in a statement issued by his agent. >>
Double talk for...I used designer steroids before they were banned, then I switched to HGH before it was banned...now I use something new that is not yet banned - so therefore I am neither a liar nor a cheat (just a weasel). None of these are probably specifically banned. Whatever.

roger said he didnt "take" steroids, which is partially true....he "injected" Steroids....
in his mind, h emay think that he is not lying.....when you become pathological you believe your own lies...
The guy reeks of insincerity.
what would it take for you to believe Clemens used performance enhancing substances? A photo of him injecting himself? Doesn't his close friend Petite disclosing his using, paired with Clemens' amazing rebound post 35 years of age and seemingly timeless ability to continue to pitch tell you he used something not on the up and up?
Do you believe anyone who has tested positive for HGH or steroids is guilty? Bonds? McGwire? Sosa?

I can only conclude that "original" IS Roger Clemens. Maybe he can sign some rookie cards for us to minimize losses from their reduced value.

That would be MAJOR LEAGUE parsing of words, and make Clinton look like a piker.
LEAVE ROCKET ALONE!
unless Clemens pulls a "McGuire".
<< <i>It's obvious who the haters are, always trying to keep a legend down. Marion is a loyal family woman who busts her rear every single day to stay in shape. She's already made enough money to feed her great-great grandkids, so it's not about the cha-ching; it's for her teammates and fans. I think it's absolutely horrible to see the media slander one of, if not the, greatest female track athlete of our generation. How dare any of you to question her integrity?!? Each and every one of you should be ashamed of yourselves!!
LEAVE Marion Jones ALONE!

uh, yeah
As for Roger, I just like him... now Barry's a whole 'nother matter.
He said that he didn't take any substances.. I mean, what else do you want from him?!?!
Who would have thought Pete Rose would look like an angel to all of these cheaters?!!! All i can say is---Thanks Barry,Roger,Andy,Lenny,Rafeal,Jose,Brian,Mac,Shef,Jason,Jeremy....... for letting Pete into the Hall of Fame now.
I wonder how many of you also look down on all of the football players from the 70's and 80's (even the 90's and today). Drugs were everywhere. I would expect many more took them than did not.
What about all of the players who were on these at one point, and have not been made public. If this report had 80 players, I would expect that actual number to be over 800. Will you change your opinion of all of these people too.
I am glad I can actually watch a game and enjoy the skills it takes to play it. I also suspect most fans also feel this way.
Someone can be a twice convicted murderer and still not believe Clemens or choose to believe him. So please enlighten all of us where the moral highground angle comes in????

Me neither but it sounded good at the time.
How about: For those doubting Rocket's innocence, he will beat you down in a non-roid rage kinda way.

While cooking yesterday, I was able to glance up and watch about six seconds of Clemens making his denial, and he is lying as well.
It looked as if somebody coached Roger Clemens to be careful on his eye and head movements so that he wouldn't give away a lie too easily. What seems to have resulted is that he did combat that giveaway, but in the process gave another one. He was too unnaturally stiff in the eyes and head, and obvious that he was concnetrating on avoiding the giveaway .
As a kid that spent hours in the principal office for mischief, I guess I learned some things.
<< <i>I am proud to say that I pegged Palmeiro as lying within minutes of watching him in congress....my brother can attest to it as I called him immediately.

I noticed those things as well, just watched it online a few minutes ago and the way his eyes looked upward right after saying
"these things are not true" just looked rather suspicious to me.

Go ahead and provide his contact information so we can verify your claims.
I will introduce you to him when you come for the game of catch.
Now quit trying to stir the pot, as usual.

Typical response from the local Napoleon. Talk a big game but when asked to step up, make yet another excuse.
Oh and edited to add, before you attempt another Tinkerbell-like spin.
I'll gladly play a game with you but make it worth my wild before hand, as I've already offered NUMEROUS times. Not just play "catch" and then go from there.
Ok putz how about this. You come, and I will make you two bets....
1) Fastest throw out of ten pitches on a radar gun.
2) Farthest football throw
I will bet you $500 each bet. How about that.
If you are so confident, then you get easy money.
After those two bets, then we can go to the top of a hill, and see who the last man standing is...a good old game of King of the Mountain.
