Washington Dollar First Day of Issue Triple Error on Ebay. Plus a 1964 PCGS MS 64 Quadruple Strike J

Washington Dollar First Day of Issue Triple Error on Ebay. One of only 4 confirmed pieces according to the original owner of all 445 pieces of these FDI coins. There are unconfirmed reports of a couple more pieces but that had not been proven. If anyone has one of these 445 coins and it is a triple error, please confirm by posting their pictures here. I would like to know the true # of these also.

Personally, I find this coin with its 3 errors to be one of my favorites, and then with a FDI thrown in, you cant beat it with a stick. Anybody out there feel the same?

The three errors are cool, but the FDI I could care less about. The reason I do not care about having a FDI label is because all those smooth edge errors came out of the boxes dated Feb 12, 2007, with inspector codes of - and - (I may be off by a number or two, but do not have them here in front of me). So, since they all came out of the same boxes, then they are all FDI. Just some are labeled that way and some are not.

    edited to remove box codes.

I will say that I do know where there are two boxes of these that are still sealed with the date and inspector codes with the known errors. The person had three boxes and opened one. Out of that box, he had over 500 smooth edges. He decided to leave the other two boxes sealed.

The way I see it, to get the FDI, you had to have complete and utter conviction that your case had errors. If you submitted a sealed case and it didnt have any errors, you had a $10,000 plus grading fee and nothing special to show for it. Those 445 FDI Washington coins represent faith, and a whole lot of cajones. To date, only 1 case was ever submitted for that exact purpose.

Don't get me wrong Russ, I am not knocking it, I just said I had no interest in having that on my PCGS label. And, I also know only the one box has ever been submitted. But, I do know where there are two more still sealed that if submitted, will get the same label.

All I was doing was honestly replying to your question about if anyone felt the same. And, while I do feel the three errors on one coin is awesome, I just have no interest in the FDI label. I do not have that interest for the 10th anniversary, 20th anniversary or any other special label. I am quite sure there are plenty of others who share my thought about that.

Unbelievable Al, it went for a too low, my top bid was $350, as I really wanted this one back. Now if PCGS ever correctly grades these and attributes them, that will be awesome. As you know, once PCGS saw the strike thru, they downgraded each coin, but they are certainly not all 64 quality.

    LALASD4,

I would like to say that the quad struck 64 nickel is way damn awesome. And, actually, many of the errors you've sold on eBay lately have been nice.

Thanks, I don't care for the labels that much to be honest. If the quad nickel were not from 64, I would have keep it. I was just trying to sell some duplicates to free up storage space.image

It is kind of strange that these are not that popular. Oh well, can't win them all.
