My first dip into the dark side.

Plan on posting several photos a night some ancient roman and some newer various countries. Just a mix of what comes out of the safe. Sounded like a fun idea and we'll see where it goes. If anyone has anything they would like to add in feel free. If it gets too annoying and I get several people saying so then I'll stop. I figure it would be a good way to test some photo skills and maybe learn a little bit about some of my material that I know nothing or very little about.
Spot number #1 is being reserved for Elagabalus Roman emperor 218-222 A.D. Its a beautiful coin nice toning in a tiger stripe pattern. Sent to Sear in 96 for grading and photo certificate (grade EF). It is by far my favorite ancient but it must be somewhere deep in the safe because it couldnt be found tonight.
Edited:
Finally found Elagabalus.

I'll see your bunny with a pancake on his head and raise you a Siamese cat with a miniature pumpkin on his head.

It is said that he was quite the freakazoid, of rather perverse sexual tastes.
For someone of that era to earn such a reputation, he must have been really kinky.

<< <i>Very nice shot of that Ancient. Looks like you've captured the correct white balance. Are you shooting on top of a gray card, by any chance? >>
Yep, I picked up a set of three from the local photo shop for a little over $10. I'm trying to up my photo shooting skills with each round. Now if I could only get around to learning how to use photoshop better to remove background and do black background effects etc...
I dont think the small spot of orange was on the coin several years ago the last time I had it out of the safe. I'm not really sure what the best way to remove it without the coin appearing cleaned would be.

I am new to the coin forum so I am trying to understand the culture here.

The term derives from the idea that most Americans, even American coin collectors, know more about the darkside of the moon than they know about foreign coins. The term was invented right here on the CU forum, I believe, and has since spread to other forums.

Apparently I have been awarded one DPOTD.
