THE NEG FB WAS NOT UNREALISTIC AND IT WAS VERY PLEASANT GIVING IT TO YOU

I was looking at buying a coin. The surface for an 1837 dime looked strange, so I went to check his feedback on toolhaus.

This is the best negative feedback and replies I've ever read.

I will post the pics of the coin but do not like the idea of posting eBay names when nothing wrong is proven. Could discredit him unfairly.

This sounds stupid. It looks like invocation of eBay's version of Mutually Assured Destruction over who leaves feedback first?

Of course, given the circular debates we've had about it here, I shouldn't be surprised...

I believe the buyer has the responsibility of either

    1) leaving feedback first
    2) sending an email indicating the transaction went well
    3) contacting seller/open dispute

As a seller it is NOT wise to leave feedback simply because you have been paid. The buyer can raise all kinds of hell and your positive feedback puts you in the crack. I also send an email to any buyer and explain this to them so they know that I won't hold feedback hostage but I need to know if the transaction was acceptable before I give any feedback. Only 1 person refused but I was able to get an email from them so I gave them feedback. I never got any back from them.

I certainly agree with you. We've seen enough horror stories about bad buyers causing trouble even after they have paid to convince me otherwise. I don't believe in either side withholding feedback as a matter of policy until the other side has left theirs; as you mention, option (2) above is sufficient. If they tell me they received what I sent and don't give any indication they're not happy, I'll consider the transaction complete even if they did not leave feedback.

once the buyer pays i leave feedback.
i always make a transaction right for the buyer, a return or whatever.

a seller who holds back on feedback right away is a wannabe in my
    mind trying to protect themselves.

protect from what i ask? they just want the chance to act childish
and get the last word in!

that is the way i see it.

a more professional seller leaves it right away. a seller who has sold
1000 items in the last year and has 98% feedback is A-OK in my book. I have learned that you cannot please everyone.

You are almost always a judgemental jerk in your posts. Why? Do you not get enough fiber in your diet? You just posted a insulting post directed at my response. "Wannabe ... chance to act foolish ... get the last word in". Didn't you Mother teach you that if you can't find something nice to say to keep your pie hole shut?

First off know it all, eBay advises Sellers not to leave feedback until you are satisfied with the transaction. The eBay "standard" emails that are sent to buyers even state that they buyer should send feedback first. Only a rookie seller would not insure that the item was actually in the buyers hands before signing off. Maybe you're happy once you get your hand on the cash but I am not satisfied until my customer is satisfied. 7 years on eBay with a 99.9% which you can't get without over 1,000 feedbacks. My only neg came from my only neutral.

If you go to your "Item Sold" page and selct a buyer then click on email. Go through the standard templates and you should see it. All mine are edited to include that an email is also okay with me as far as feedback. I just want to make sure that they got want I sent before I assume everything is okay. Some buyers are dishonest so I always use Delivery Confirmation for no extra charge so if they receive it and indicate that they are okay then I give feedback. If they give ne a negitive then I can show this to eBay and get it removed. Never had to but it's always smart to make sure the buyer and the seller are protected.

If a buyer pays immediately I leave + FeedBack, note that fact and the date of item shipment.

As a buyer if I don’t get it after immediate payment and the item arrives as described, I don’t leave any.

I’d rather not have a list showing the items I’ve bought anyways.

    From the eBay FeedBack Tutorial

You paid for an item, but it hasn't yet arrived. Since you paid you expect the seller to leave feedback first. Should the seller leave feedback upon receipt of payment?

    a. Yes. Since you paid, the seller should leave feedback first

    b. No. The seller should wait until you leaves feedback, signaling your satisfaction with the item and the transaction.

    c. No. The seller has automated part of the transaction process using auction management software so the seller should let the system leave the feedback based on the criteria they chose when they programmed the software.

    d. Each member may choose the best approach to leaving feedback for them.

    D.
That's right! There are different philosophies on whether the buyer or seller should leave feedback first. Research shows that sellers who leave feedback upon receipt of payment receive a higher percentage of feedback, but either approach is acceptable.

One reason that sellers leave feedback upon receipt of payment is that they believe that the buyer has upheld his or her end of the transaction. One reason sellers wait until a buyer has left feedback is they take the feedback as the signal that the buyer is satisfied with the purchase and no further customer support is needed.

If the approach your buyer or seller takes matters to you, review the comments left for others in their Member Profile page to see when they leave feedback.

    Sellers should leave feedback first!

As a seller, I leave feedback as soon as I receive payment. The buyers' only responsibility is to pay for the item. Everything else falls on the seller. Those that say the buyer should leave feedback first are simply wanting the ability for an unwarranted retalitory feedback if the buyer leaves negative feedback (usually deserved).

As a seller, it is your obligation to ensure the buyer is satisfied. In MOST cases this is very easy to do using reasonable and expected business practices.

For the RARE buyer that will leave bad feedback no matter what, you will have to accept an occasional "ding" to your feedback score. Big Deal, it happens to the best of us.

I am a strong advocate that EBay should automatically leave good feedback for a buyer as soon as payment is verified.

Instead of looking at this from a selfish point of view, look at it from the larger picture. If sellers left feedback immediately, then the buyer would be able to leave feedback without fear of retalitory feedback. LOTS of buyers will not leave appropriate negative feedback because of this! This would allow them to be more honest, giving future buyers from that seller a more accurate view of the seller. While this is not a perfect system and might result in an occasional bad feedback from a dissatisfied buyer that no one is able to please, overall it helps way more than it hurts.

The overwealming feeling that the seller is always right and not the buyer is a sad daily reminder of the decline of customer service in this country. Be careful as you reap what you sew and your attitude that the buyer is always right will result in the continual erosion of basic customer service.

Probably the dumbest line so far on this thread. Just because you pay quickly doesn't mean you're a good customer. You could be the biggest ass in the world and pay on time but it doesn't mean I want to do business with you. Feedback covers everything, not just being a quick payer. It covers whether or not you have unrealistic demands, a constant complainer, etc, etc. I never leave a buyer feedback first. If a buyer doesn't leave me feedback, no biggie, I sell to sell, not chock up feedback. I may after a month leave feedback only because of the time length and the buyer has had a chance to complain, etc.

Griv, you've got to be kidding me. Look what you wrote to FC....you asked him about his fiber intake! I don't really care if you don't like being insulted. I imagine you must be used to it if you randomly accuse people of not getting enough fiber image It's a shame you can't handle someone disagreeing with you. That's why you're immature. Fire away, I won't be reading this thread anymore.

Edited to add: The coins I sell on eBay usually are not extremely high dollar. I take large, clear pictures, have a return policy and accept Paypal. I have no reason to fear a chargeback or anything else from an unhappy buyer. In short, I don't have unhappy buyers because I am forward about any problems the coin may have, etc. People who won't leave feedback first are many times (not always, of course) hiding something about the coin. There, that is what I have to say about this thread.

I do not leave any feedback unless it is asked for. Never did and never will. I have been buying and selling on Ebay since 1997. Have 100% feedback (count of 900 something, 70% from buying). I did break my own rules several times and left a few well deserved negatives to deadbeat bidders. If I was a fan of feedback, I would never post it until I know that the buyer is satisfied.

As far as I can figure in this feedback scenario, there was a total breakdown of communication between buyer and seller, while both show a lack of professionalism. One warns about the buyer because of feedback. This insinuates he didn't do his part in pleasing his paying customer. . One gloats at his ability to use the system to insult which shows immaturity. (tit for tat) What follows in this thread borders on character assassination. I don't understand this thread but it's gone way off track of U.S. Coins.

    It's not a techno- it's reality.

I don't mean to be jumping down your throat on this (nothing personal, I assure you), but it gets awfully frustrating when one sees (over and over again) people assuming that because sonmething is so for them, it's so for everybody else.

eBay says it's okay for people to make their own determination about when to leave feedback, and about who should go first. Why can't that be good enough?

Great feature is the ability to block PMs from folks you choose to block. Go into your PM menu and look to the bottom right.
I've used it on "certain" folks image

The other thing...it is considered bad form to post PMs but if someone is harassing or just using "bite me" type PMs, that is another thing entirely.

Where is the GENTLE, in gentlemen ?

Carol ? This thread is not about coins.

  • << <i>More from Griv: "It is against the forum rules to disclose a PM for any reason without the sender's okay. You are toast you idiot." I honestly don't care if I'm not supposed to post PMs. Griv is harassing me and I just want all to see the type of person he is. I have not PMed him once and he has PMed me twice. I'm sure more are coming. >>

against the rules posting trash pm's full of obsenities and threats, I think not. We had a clown here in the earlydays, washingtonman. He pm'd me obsenties and obnoxious comments about my family, which I not only posted on the boards to show him for what he is, I also forwarded it to carol so she could properly dispose of the clown, which she did image

send me a pm like that, and I will do the same to youimage

FC, I agree with you. I don't always, but you make a good point there.

Griv you're just an immature brat. No other way to phrase it. >>

Let me once again post the FIRST post from doh. Now who started what?

fc even posted a nice post to let me know he really wasn't meaning to gett down on me and that he gets a little too passionate. Cool, me too, so we're cool. So where does this "doh" guy get off insulting me for no reason that to pick a fight?
