As much as we sometimes complain about the U.S. Mint

There is nothing as exciting as when

they come out with a major new coin

or set. Especially the Golds and Plats.

  • Personally, I find the discovery of a roll of 1893-S Morgans, or of 4 Mint State Charlotted Gold $5 (both of which are relatively recent events) much more exciting.

Did I miss something? Who discovered the roll of 1893-S dollars?

I think these showed up at a show in Las Vegas this year but I don't have any details.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

  • yes a roll of 1893s morgans. i read about that. an older type collector went to a vegas show and had a few other rare rolls and some other stuff. the 93s roll was i believe in vf-ex+ grades.
the dealer he took it to must have been stuned.
what a shocker in 07 huh? an entire roll...

That would be quite a find. Want excitement? How about a roll of 1873-S dollars...

bear i so disagree with you. nothing at the mint in recent years
gets me excited. i just think of the franklin mint and recall all the
crap i see for sale at antique stores no one wants unless it is
dirt cheap or at melt. i know that most, almost all, of this new mint
material will end up like that.

we are in such a bubble it is funny.

fc, the issue is that one must be very

selective in separating the dross from

the diamonds in Mint products. This Forum

will usually be able to spot the winners from

    the wieners.

the winners seem to be based on which coins can be flipped for
    a profit..

but i do understand that a few people here buy them for the
excellent designs that catches their eyes!

i think they are in the minority though. too much discussions of
which have low mintages and which have wider collector appeal
make me think of flipping and not the discussion of the design.

i guess my favorite lately would be the gold buff bullion coin.
who doesn't like large gold objects! ;o)

Unless you own an 1893-S Morgan or a mint state Charlotte gold $5. Then that just sucked. image
