1999 P SBA MS68 pop 1/0 on E-Bay ; bid at $ 4000

Have you seen this auction ? Bid is at $ 4000 with 4 days to go !! I'm a big Suzie fan , but this is way out of my league. Does anyone know what's the highest price paid for a SBA $ ? Supercoin or Wondercoin ? Thanks !

  • Highest price paid was for a 1981-P at $5000+. Person that had the #3 registry set bought the coin and then sold his set.

I bought the #3 Registry Set outright earlier this year after I had offered it on ebay. I would have bought Dennis' set too had he given me a chance image

I can not answer the question as to the top price for a SBA coin, as my sale of the 1981(p) to my buyer was confidential. But, this auction should be very interesting as every SBA set needs this coin!! image Wondercoin.

  • As of this moment, the '99 SBA is bid ay $4000. Interesting to see where this one goes.
I have never seen a Peace Dollar that I did not like!!
  • To the best of my knowledge (I don't know every sale of course), the $5K barrier hasn't quite been broken in population-rare SBAs. In error coins it may have been, i.e. a spectacular error like a 1999 SBA on Sacagawea planchet.

There have been at least several pop-rare coins in the $3K+ range though.

And there are some PCGS coins right now that would unquestionably break $5K if they came on the market today. Or this 99-D might do it -- the auction has plenty of time left!

Ah, the much-maligned SBA dollar -- even Ms. Anthony might be tempted to crack a smile seeing her coin get it's day in the sun. image

When I was up on the SBA registries, I heard of a guy turning down 10K for one of the pop 1 coins. Can't remember which one it was though as that was a while back. WOW!! Too much for me. A great series thoughimage

C'mon. Why do we hear this refrain everytime a modern coin sells
for some serious money. It's not like this is a 2001 coin and it's
not like it sold for $50 six months ago.
This has been a valuable coin since it was made and people have had
years to make this coin themselves and score their big payday.

Do you know anything about this series or are you just saying this
    because it's a modern?
