How does this happen? Does this make the coin lose value regardless of grade? Are there collectors out there who like these? Scratch on obv is on holder.

Seriously, though, I doubt there's enough of a premium in a fatty such that this coin would fetch 65 PL money even in an old fatty, if that's what you're asking...some people pay premiums for the right generation of plastic, but unless it's a very rare slab it's usually because of perceived upgrade potential -- which this coin doesn't seem to have -- and not the slab itself.

Those old NGC NoLine FatSlabs were notorious for not being air tight and coins usually always toned in them around the rim. Should not reduce value of the coin.
