I agree. I like the look of it, Obv. especially.

    OK... here's the kicker....

This coin is currently slabbed in a top 3 slab at MS61. Unless I'm really missing something the thing looks to be a serious candidate for upgrade.

I've never tried to "upgrade" anything but there is always a first time...

All I can think is that it's a borderline problem coin marked down for "wipe marks." This is graded MS60 by ANACS. Eliasberg's eye for quality wasn't used on commemoratives.

If the coin has a "flat" appearance and very little luster, it may have been dipped too harshly at one point. Look carefully for the presence of scattered hairlines as well, most "wiped" coins with patches of parallel hairlines are considered cleaned and often will not be slabbed by PCGS or NGC. It is a real challenge to find an attractive Alabama undipped with intact skin; many were stripped and are blast white or have retoned in albums.

Obverse is better than the reverse for the Alabama but it does have that dull look. Again, grading with pictures, well....
The Wisconsin looks dull as well and what is that to the right of the ore stack? Again, grading with pictures, well....

Looks dipped out from the pictures provided. I would suggest looking for a MS63 or better Alabama from either PCGS or NGC.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

I'm not thrilled by, what looks like, the whiteness of the reverse.

If it were me, I'd pass. There are lots of others out there that are better and priced about the same.

    Sorry.

Hard to tell from the images why it's in a 61 holder. Probably not worth the time, effort, and expense of looking at the coin just to return it.

There is a market for the coins, the Alabama has a wonderful design and I don't remember where you can find a badger anywhere else not to mention with a pick on the other side! Someone would want them to finish up or establish a position hoping to move up to better eye appeal on phase II (Completed but in need of appearance evening and upgrades)
