An hour later...This Auction went up on ebay.

Think he'll get any takers? image

  • I guess Teletade doesn't give pics of the reverse slab? That took a lot of work. LOL!

  • Amazing. Is there really a two-way market for things like this?
  • Apparently, the seller is also of the opinion eBay is a better venue for high grade ultra moderns than Teletrade.

  • Just sent him my "BEST OFFER" for $525 delivered and insuredimage

    Then I added these terms:

<< <i>Concidering you just bought this on TeleTrade tonight for $550.... I figured that I would match the underbidder if you don't want it. Price will include postage and insurance. If you except offer, delivery must be within five days after payment. >>

    Wonder if I will winimage

I notice in the ebay auction he cut off the bottom of the reverse pic...where Teletrade had their name.

He better hope so. He paid $50 more for that one than the one that sold on Teletrade a week and a half ago.

He also paid $50 more than the PCGS price guide... I wonder if he will ever break even?image

I doubt he'll break even. I wouldn't even pay his original price for it.

Dealers buy coins at auction and resell them with a markup all the time. Is this wrong?

  • I do not understand the animosity. Apparently he's in business. He found what he thought was a good deal so he could make money off, for his business.

edited to add: Is that coin really worth anywhere near that price? Anyone have the greysheet price on it?

  • God Bless Capitalism. More power to him if he can turn a buck.

The problem I have with this is that he doesn't actually possess this coin yet. What's he going to do if it gets lost or damaged. There's a problem with selling something you don't actually own yet.

unless they have changed since I got them last, greysheet does not last top pop moderns

with a population of 43/0, the seller may get a taker with an itch

the prices have been slowly dropping, but they have been selling for more on Heritage
  • AHHHHH,
    Pricing by Coin Vault.

How much will it cost him, if and when it doesn't sell?

Simple flipping operation... many do it... right here on the BST and all over ebay... He is interested in profit... not collecting. Cheers, RickO

Dang, we've come a long way since I won one of those on Teletrade for 50 dollars. Yes, I even think it was an '88-S.

I know the PCGS PR70 DCAM quarter I won (also for 50 bucks) was a 1986-S. It was OGH. The Kennedy was blue label.

I had to pay $75 for the PCGS PR70 DCAM SBA dollar, though. image

Amazing what the Registry has done. I bought my 70 DCAMS the year before I began Registry collecting (which is what brought me here, originally, in 2001). So I guess that means it was 2000 when I bought mine for $50-75 off Teletrade. Maybe late-1999.

I agree. Nothing wrong with turning a buck but I would at least wait until the coin is in hand. Teletrade pics don't alwys show spots of flaws to say the least.

Some folks need a quick end of the year balancing loss for tax purposes too possibly.

Nope PCGS price guide is $1000 for this one. He paid $450 less than the price guide.

Your right, now I can't find where I got the $500 value...

I see that he lowered his BIN to $995 though.

I think this is more honorable than "buying" a coin or bullion piece from the mint, seeing it is not a perfect 70 and then sending it back for a refund.

I also think this one is priced in the dream stage, but hey- you never know....some people really collect these...things....
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

Not as bad as some sellers. That usmarinecorps guy puts up 1 day auctions on eBay for 1889-CC, 1893-S coins, etc using photos from online dealers web sites. If it sells, he buys the coin from the dealer and then flips it.
