I do! I do!! Me me me me me!! I got almost all the major 80s wax/rack/cello packs (I'm only missing the Donruss blister packs), including a complete wax pack run of Topps/Fleer/Donruss/Score up to 1998-99. I wish I could find someone with one of each series of Topps 2000-07. Also, I'd love to collect all the pack variations of 1993 and 1994 Topps (rack, jumbo, jumbo rack) but finding those now is next to impossible.
I have a wax run from 1970-1980, a cello run from 1972-1980 and a rack run from 1971-80.
Also a wax and cello box run from 1977 to 1980.

Now that I can understand to a certain degree. But what if you're sitting on a pack that has a ridiculous card worth more than the pack itself is valued?

For unopened collectors, the joy is in posessing the intact pack itself, as pre-72 vintage product is very scarce these days (authentic product that is). I've opened my share of packs for gradeable cards, too, but it is a crap shoot and I can definitely understand the appeal of "keeping 'em sealed" as I also have a number of packs that I'd never consider opening, either.

i have a bunch off 88 donruss cellos everybody ought to have some, i actually sold 2 boxed of pro set 1991 musiccards and 20 packs of 19911 impel megametal cards last night, i was amazed, now if i can just get rid of the soccer/hockey,and nonsports junk lol i even have some kind of stupid 3 stooges unopened packs, noticed em the other day in the pile of stuff ive yet to go thru
I hope you grin every time you get to post that picture Griffins, I know I do .
I have a modest vintage pack collection, and a decent semi-modern pack collection. The vast majority is ungraded and worthless . I love the coolness factor of unopened stuff, and am not tempted to open any of it.
As to why people get packs graded and leave them unopened, I'd arge that getting a pack professionally authenticated is even more important than getting a single card professionally authenticated. It's easier to tamper with a pack in a manner undetectable to a layman than it is to a card. As for leaving them unopened, the average value in vintage packs typically exceeds the expected value of the cards inside. There is added value in the seal and unopened state itself, which you negate by opening the pack. That said, this is a hobby so do whatever floats your boat.
Unopened packs are getting more scarce every day. With the quality control that Topps had compounded by the handling after production you have a low chance of pulling mint cards. The unopened packs in alot of ways are going to be worth more than what you could possibly pull out of them especially in the future. It's like toy collectors want the box in good shape, difference here is we don't know what toy is inside and that makes it even more fun.
Currently completing the following registry sets: Cardinal HOF's, 1961 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1972 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1980 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, Bill Mazeroski Master & Basic Sets, Roberto Clemente Master & Basic Sets, Willie Stargell Master & Basic Sets and Terry Bradshaw Basic Set
The packs shown in the picture are from '51 thru '79. The picture is actually a few years old, I've added a bunch more '50's packs, but unfortunately they all reside in a dark safety deposit box now. I do have scans and unsupervised visitation rights.

I have recently started collecting graded unopened packs (since PSA started grading) and was wondering what these packs are fetching? I have a PSA 10 & a PSA 9 graded 1973 OPC Baseball packs. The PSA 10 is a 1 of 1. What would something like this fetch? It seems like the market is still very volatile since there's such a limited number of these graded packs out there. Any thoughts? I can't tell you how hard it was not to rip these packs - I want a high grade Schmidt rookie soooo bad, but my odds are like 1 in 60 with that huge set.
The lucky guy who recieved my secret santa gift will surely be getting a bunch of unopened packs from 1972 & an unopened pack from 1948. I felt generous this year.

1973 OPC wax has really come down in price over the years after a big find made them more plentiful. You can get a Mint 9 pacj for about $50 on e3bay. I'd say the PSA 10 pack might command about $100-$125.

I will be honest. It was a lot harder than I thought. The 75 baseball is probabely one of the most common cellos on ebay.I can't even imagine how hard any of the other sports would be.
dboyz- excellent cello pack collection from the best baseball set ever, 1975 Topps. I was 11 yrs. old in 75 and was a huge Stargell fan, aren't you going to get one with him on top?

Do you know anything about that 1973 opc find? How much was found... and where?
Well, I've decided it's time to get rid of my '73 OPC wax pack that graded a PSA 10 (that I mentioned in this thread). I'm afraid if I keep it much longer, it's just going to get ripped. If any interest: Link
Not sure how I missed this thread, but dam Griffins, that is one incredible collection! How long did it take you to assemble that?
Like most others here, I only have a few packs, and most of those are new. But I did recently pick up a 1951 Topps red back pack with Duke Snider showing on back that was graded GAI 10. I know, it's not worth big bucks, but I just like the idea of having an unopened old pack. Griffins picture made me green with envy.
