What's the better home - an old NGC fattie or a current PCGS holder?

I have two MS65 coins that are in the older NGC fattie holder (no bar code). I'm certain they'll cross but suspect they won't upgrade. The coins are $400 +/- items, meaning they're readily available but with some pain. For sake of discussion, assume we would agree as to the quality and grade and the submission would not specify a minimum grade. So, from a potential future sale, which will eventually happen, would you as a buyer be more inclined to buy the NGC fattie holder or the brand new PCGS holder?

If the coins were roughly equivalent I'd always go with the Fattie as long as I like the coin. And I like the old holders where coins were graded more tightly. But in many cases the fattie will be nicer and dealers who like to buy shot coins appreciate fatties. While you may not think the coin has a shot, it doesn't mean that others will agree with you. Long live the fattie...a disappearing breed.

I would prefer the fatties myself, and all other things equal, would probably cough up just a little extra for it..

Another vote for the fattie. Coins in old holders are presumed to be stable and if they haven't developed problems in the last 15 years, they probably won't in the future.

If the coins have nice eye appeal for the grade then keep them in the fattie. If you ever sell there is a market for people hoping on the upgrade.
