Lowball Registry Set Question

Would a 1986-S proof half dollar that would probably grade somewhere at or under the Fine range have any value for collectors of these sets?

    Maybe?

    That's a pretty low grade for a 1986-S half.

Is it a Kennedy, or a commemorative?

    It's a Kennedy.

Oh, well, sorry about that... I don't know very much at all about PCGS-related stuff, nor do I have a membership.

You don't need a membership to look at or participate in the registry sets. You just need a membership to be able to do direct submissions.

  • It's a proof? I'd say there is some collector value. Not because of it being a proof
but because you pulled a proof out of circulation..I'm assuming you did.

50cents plus $18 grading fee plus $2 novelty premium. Something like that. Maybe even
higher. If it came back a F15 I would be interested in something like that.

    PM madmarty.
  • Or braddick.

I'm surprised neither of them have replied yet. I bet they'd pay a pretty price for it, if you got it into a slab.

I'd love to own a problem free, low grade proof PCGS Kennedy clad or silver half.

Here's what I be willing to pay (might give you an idea of value/worth for sending it in...):

    PR12: $100.00

    PR08: $200.00

    PR04: $350.00

    PR01: $500.00
  • Well, I'm glad I said 'Maybe even higher.'

What a neat idea for a Set Registry Registry Set. Circulated Modern Proof Kennedy Halves.

What about a 1998-S Silver Matte Finish? Would the finish wear off so you couldn't tell it
    was silver matte?

I did indeed pull it out of circulation. I search half-dollars on a regular basis, and come across proofs ever so often. Right now I have one 1776-1976-S, one 1984-S, two or three 1986-S, one 1987-S, one 1991-S, one 2003-S, and one 2006-S, although all but the example I started this thread about still exhibit distinctly proof-like qualities.

How can I do that? Sorry, but I am still relatively new here.

I will consider sending it in, then. This is probably a rather complicated question, but how can I go about looking into taking out a PCGS membership?

Look at the top of the page Quick Links:....that will take you to the PCGS homepage. You'll find it from there. 'CollectorsClub'

  • I have one more question... will PCGS grade a proof that is as worn as this one appears to be? I haven't looked at it in months, but I don't remember there bring any surface damage, only evidence of circulation.
  • Sure, why not if it's problem free.

Here's the pop report for circulated Proof Kennedy Halves:

    1964 Accented Hair AU50
    1979-S PRDC F grade range

    That's the only 2 I see listed.

You don't have your PM )Private Message) function turned on, you can go into your profile and activate it.

You can also find a member here or a local dealer to submit a single coin for you as part of a larger submission, rather than ponying up for membership yourself. I'll have a modern submission going in after the first of the year, if you'd like I'd be happy to submit it for you. Once you get the PM's activated you can write me for details.

That would be great, if you wouldn't mind doing so. I do not have the time, nor the money (I am in college right now) to be able to afford making multiple submissions. I believe I have the PM turned on now, so please feel free to message me with any additional information.

I'm sure Pat would like it for a type set, myself I'm still working on those pesky Margan Dollars!!!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!
