If that is the case it ould seem that mint would have to shut down orders very soon.

Maybe they had 30,000 already made.

They either have them (and may be waiting on the packaging or something) or can make them.
I wouldn't bet against a 30,000 mintage if people do pony up to buy that many.
Of course, there will be flippers who are betting against this and will cancel their orders when a sell-out occurs or when they seem to be making enough of them.

If I recall, it takes an act of congress to mint coins AFTER the year of mintage... the last time this happened was during the great silver coin shortage of the mid 1960s when there was a "date freeze."
I may be wrong. someone with more or better info? thanks

Perhaps, but the Mint has already shown us by their failure to mint the number of 2007 Sacagaweas required by law that they are not going to let something as trivial as the law get in their way.

I'll bet it doesn't take long at all to make 10,000 sets of Platinum Eagles. And they would just have to stamp them out, packaging could be done on a much more casual pace.
If 27,000 sets are on order as of Dec 27th ( or thereabouts ) you better believe the Mint would strike all 30,000 sets. The unsold balance would be offered until a sell-out occured - even if it took a year. Given the trends for Platinum - that probably wouldn't take a year.

I'd guess that any coins that are limited by law or whatever for striking or selling have those limits adhered to by the Mint.

Not a guess...I have heard that before.
But, that doesn't equate exactly to the 10th annv platinum sets.
I would bet that striking the coins is not the real issue. just a packaging thing.

the Mint will or will not sell after 12/31/07
The Mint has or has not made 30,000 coins
The Mint will or will not begin to ship prior to 12/31/07
I hope this clears up some of your questions.

You mean that the Mint would selectively pick and choose which laws/requirements to follow and which to not follow? I think that we already know that the 2008 plain ol ASEs are made and ready to distribute.
