  • its about time for him to retire... if he had taken some roids and HGH he'd probably be signing a 20 million dollar contract by now and still clubbin 40 HR's a year

Nah. If he stays healthy Edmonds should be able to improve on last year's poor production, but I don't think we could've counted on him to contribute that much offensively. Especially not in relation to his big salary. I don't know much about the 3B we're getting, but hopefully he's good enough to make Rolen expendable.

A part of me does hate seeing key members of some very good Cardinals teams disappearing, but let's face it: Cardinal Nation was incredibly fortunate in 2006. The window of opportunity wasn't going to stay open much longer - if it all. After this disappointing season, I thought it was pretty clear that the team needed a major overhaul and not just a couple of missing pieces. Hopefully this is a start.

I haven't watched Edmonds (or looked at his stats for that matter) in the last couple of years.....can he still play defense at or near the same level he used to?

  • I have always liked Edmonds and use to grab him in fantasy drafts for cheap money when he was at his peak but know he needs to be thinking rocking chair.

What makes you think he didn't to earn his last contract? I'm sure some pretty good stuff was only a locker or two away. I don't know if he did or didn't but I'd like to hear from some players.

Defensively, I don't think he has lost much, if any. I would still love to have him in centerfield. The offense is where he is declining. Last year was very mediocre for Edmonds. I loved his time in St Louis. I hate to see him go. He is one of the best defenders that I have ever seen.

Eckstein is gone... to Toronto. Apparently the Birds are dumping the (ex) Angels.
