A one of a kind,English..... now, Forever lost..Edited to add photograph's.

Well, I suppose you all are wondering what it is all about....... Ozzy, My Old English Sheepdog has now passed, After getting him at 4 week's old. And Spending the almost last 14 yr's. together, His Birthday would have been, Jan. 28th.... 2008. He began losing his dignity and his hair. I have been a basket case all day. He was the rarest part of my English collection. I now realize that, i will alway's be ozzysdad and that i will alway's miss him. Better known as the "Nanny", He kept watch over my children as well as my home and my coin collection. I'm not really sure he ever really slept at all, Not only did he keep watch over my 2 daughter's , But stayed at the foot of my grandchildren's carrier's as well, That include's all 6 of them, Do any of you know if there is a coin with a Old English Sheepdog on it????? My best to those who have loved and enjoyed this particuliar breed. They are the truest English gentlemen that ever have existed in my own opinion. I almost went with him, and hope that if pet's are in heaven, He will be waiting for me on the other side. I am trying to remember all the good time's we had. Which were many......... I wonder if i can go on without him.......image Best to all on this forum, Don't ever take your best friend for granted.

I remain, ozzysdad47 / Brad......image

Sorry to hear about your loss. I know how hard it is.

Never known an English sheepdog. The breed I've fallen for is the beagle. We had one when I was a kid, and I've "owned" (?) three in adulthood. I've wondered the same thing: "Are there any coins or medals that show a beagle?" I know there's a U.S. postage stamp of relatively recent vintage.

  • Thank you for your kind word's, I hope i can find a coin with a Sheepdog on it........ It will be one that i will never take off.

Best wishe's and God Bless to you , Dentuck...

Wow, I'm really sorry about your loss. I know how hard it is image
  • I too feel the pain of your loss and while I have never had a sheepdog but I have had many other breeds and mutts over the years. Most were closer and more friendly than most people I know and even some family members. Time heals the pain, but the memories of our best friends lives last forever. I can still name every companion I have had since childhood and each of their little quirks and things they did that made each unique in there own special way.

My thoughts and prayers are with you...

  • Brad...so sorry for the loss of your friend.

I wish I had the words to make you feel better.

  • Thank's so much for the kindness and heartfelt word's, I would really give anything to find a Old English Sheepdog coin that i can get a bezel for and wear it as a necklace, I'll never have another friend like Ozzy, He was there through thick and thin, Even though he never said anything. I could alway's pick up on his feeling's. From the time's when we would ride in the truck, To the time's when I would buy him a cheeseburger, When i only had enough for one of us to eat. Most male Sheepdog's only weigh around 65 pound's, Ozzy was a 100 pounder, And as i laid on the floor beside him on his favorite comforter he knew what was coming, We hit him with a 100 Mg.'s of Ketamine and waited for him to start chasing bunnie rabbit's, for 15 minute's before we administered the lethal dose of Sodium Thiopentothal I held his paw with one hand and put my other hand on his heart until it stopped. We then wrapped him in his comforter and placed him in a grave that was 4 ft. by 4 ft. by 3 1/2 ft. deep, As i said he was a big guy. He actually lived about 2 or 3 year's longer than most big dog's do......

I took good care of the old gentleman, Funny, if you add it up, He started out younger than myself and yet he would have been close to a 100 year's old in human year's, What a great friend he was. and we had some great time's together. But in the end, He felt no pain, Unless he could feel mine. I've been in tear's all day, And twice i have gotten up to let him out to do his chore's. Only to realize he is gone. And end up findind myself standing next to his grave. I don't know how long this will continue. But i think if anyone can find me a coin with a Sheepdog on it, It will be "Wybrit" , I'm open to anyone that can help me find a coin or medal.......... I'm willing to pay any price within reason, or basically anything to find me a coin with a shepdog on it......... I feel that one of my largest mistake's was spending more time collecting coin's the past few year's, When i should have been spending more time with him out riding in the truck, Which he loved so much.

Spend time with your pet / friend and Remember the unconditional love they give...... By the time you realize it, It's too late.......

Thank you all who have responded with the kindness, It give's me faith that people still care,

Take care and God bless you all,

So sorry to here of your loose, I am a cat person but have lost several life long pets and it is a heart breaker every time. My last one was with me 22 years from a kitten who had walked into my barn.image

You may have better luck finding a medal with a sheepdog on it. Lots of dog show medals out there to look through.

I'm terribly sorry to hear about the passing of Ozzy. We are deeply attached to our dog who is still rather young but we often think about the time when he will move on and leave us behind. The thought of you wrapping Ozzy in his comforter and laying him to rest is almost more than I can bear.

I wish you the best in this time of grief.
  • My condolences on the loss of Ozzy.

As a previous poster said - time will heal the wounds but the good memories will remain.

The best thing that you could have done during Ozzy's live was to be a good owner which it sounds like you were.

I didn't realize the Ozzy of "ozzysdad47" was a dog.

There's a country that strikes NCLT coinage of dogs, in a series, the way the Isle of Man does cats. I forget which country it is, or if there is a sheepdog in their series.

Having had a fourteen-year-old cat have to be put to sleep about three years ago, I can sympathize- I was pretty broken up when Big Kitty had to make that final vet visit, but she was diabetic and in terrible shape.

And Big Kitty was technically my wife's cat.

When our grey cat (MY cat) goes, it'll be worse. But she's still relatively young and healthy, thank goodness.

I'm too much of a softie when it comes to our critters, and often to critters in general.

I do think you should share a picture of Ozzy, and make it into a future avatar. I would be happy to help make a new icon for you out of his picture if you like.

image I never have any good words in these times...but I am so sad for you. I do alot of looking through the medal section on ebay and 'dogs' is one of my new searches--I will keep a lookout for any nice sheepdog ones for you. image

edited to add: Here's one but I'm sure we can find you something nicer. I haven't found a list of all the dogs on the Gibraltar coins yet. I don't know if they did the sheepdog.

  • Here is a picture of Ozzy taken this time last year........ As you can see , He was getting cataract's, But none the less a fine gentleman. I wish i had gotten him bread so i could of had at least a puppy. I can't remember how to post his pic, But here it is....... Another picture of Ozzy at the Humane Society Fundraiser........ image

  • Ozzy is the last friend i will ever have, I was able to get Animal control to come to the house and laid him on his comforter in the kitchen floor and put him to sleep. We own the Humane Society here, We were able to procure the decommissioned Air Force K-9 unit, It is now named after my mother, It's called The Honorable Shirley M. Connealy Humane Society of Blytheville. Before it was Decommishend 12 yr's ago, We were a S.A.C. (Strategic Air Command) Base we were the 87th Bomb Wing here at Blytheville, AR. Better known as The Eaker Air Force Base.

I'll see if i can find Ozzys baby picture, He was know as a Blue Sheepdog, but looked more like a baby Panda bear.......

Man, words cannot express the sadness that I feel for you. I currently have 7 beagles, I had 14, all of them rescues from shelters and roadsides. I found homes for most of them but before I got this current homefull of dogs I had two that were pets. When I was a child I received a beagle from my dad as a gift. I had her for 17 years... She was with me through my elementary years, middle school years, highschool, and even into college before we had to put her to sleep. I will never forget the day we took her to the vet. Infact I have a tear in my eye right now.... image People don't realize that pets become like children, brothers, sisters, and even moms and dads to children. It took me several years before I could get another dog to fill the void that loosing Sparkles (that was her name) left. I got another beagle right after I got married. Seeing as how my name was Todd we named her Copper, as in the old Disney cartoon, the Fox and the Hound (Copper and Todd). We had her for 8 months then we found out she had a hereditary intestinal problem that lead to her death. I had to take two weeks off work. I was literally ruined. I couldn't understand how after loosing one dog I was already loosing another. My wife understood that it hit me hard and finally convinced me that we should get another dog. I told her that I did not want to BUY a dog I wanted to help dogs that would have no life here on earth, make it special for them. So we went about find strays and rescues from the shelter. I have found that this has added more joy to my life than anything I have ever done. When these dogs pass from this life I will be extremely sad but I will know that I gave them a chance when they did not have one. I know that there are people out there that are in need but there are SOOOO many organizations that assist people so I figured I would assist animals. I love my dogs like they were my children, funny thing is, I have a boy on the way that is due in February. Everyone tells me I will love my son more than my dogs, if that is the case I don't know what I would do if anything EVER happened to him.
Ozzy'sdad47, keep your head up, and enjoy all the good times you had with Ozzy. I don't know if there are dogs in heaven but I will say this, Heaven is a place that will bring us happiness and if Ozzy brought you happiness I see no reason why the Good Lord wouldn't allow you to ahve him there. I believe that my Sparkles and Copper are there waiting on me and that's what keeps me smiling. Don't ever be ashamed of how much you care for your animals and don't be ashamed if it brings a tear to your eyes. We are humans and we have feelings. I want to thank you for sharing your story and wish you good luck with life after Ozzy. It won't be easy but I promise you will find a way to cope with it. I will suggest that you find another pet, not to take Ozzy's place but to help YOU get through, Ozzy would want that.
I hope this post has helped in some way. Despite your loss, have a Merry Christmas an Happy New Year, and remember we are all only a post or pm away!

Sad time and we all sympathize with your loss. From your description, it sounds like you both were fortunate and Ozzy's departure occured with great love and dignity. You can't ask for more or do more for a loved one in such circumstances!

Over the years we had 2 shelties put to sleep and it is one of the hardest things I ever had to do. I now have a pair of dachshunds that are 12 1/2 and 13 and the elder is starting to have serious health problems. Samantha and Cinders grew up with our children and really made our home complete. Of course the kids move on and with the passing of my wife this past summer they still make this home.

I'm not sure that the wounds of loss will ever fully heal, but your memories are a balm that helps a lot!

Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

My daughter Victoria just "ooohed" and "ahhhhed" at his picture.

I didn't bother to tell her the sad news. Once a cute doggie, always a cute doggie.
