1832 Bust Half... Input and Opinions Needed!

Well, I broke down and finally purchased my first Bust Half today. I've been wanting one for the longest time now, and when I saw this one it spoke to me.......

Anyway, I have no clue as to the different varieties for these coins except large and small letters, and I'll be darned if I can figure out which one this is. There's also some Overton varieties of which I have no clue about, either.

Any help or input would be greatly appreciated! In addition, a grade estimate would be helpful. According to the PCGS price guide, I paid about half of what it would be worth if slabbed. If anyone could give me some more info about this coin (and bust halves in general), I'd be most grateful!

Mucho thanks!!,

Rick

  • O- 106?

It looks like line 1 of stripe 2 and line 2 of stripe 4 extend to the 2nd crossbar, but I defer to the many better informed members of this forum.

EF-45, possibly cleaned is my guess from left field, based on the picture.

O-106 is probably right, but I would need a glass to confirm some of the diagnostics. It's difficult to tell from the image whether or not it is obverse die 4 (O-106 obverse die) as the key diagnostic is a recut star 1, which is not visible in the image. It does appear to be reverse die E, however.

I would grade it EF-40 with an old cleaning.

Thanks for the close-ups, Rick. I stepped away and somebody must have asked about the shield point to see the "B" shaped defect near the point.

    No doubt it is O-106.
