Grade or not?

I have a question. If I want to sell some coins I have, should I send them in to be graded or should I just list them in BST/Ebay and assume that either way, you will see the condition and pay accordingly?

It really depends. The cost of say grading a coin worth $25, just to sell it PCGS plastic will have a break even or net loss affect vs selling the raw coin for just $15. On the other hand, coins in the $100 and up range, will fetch a little more because they are in Plastic, SOMETIMES. Best to ask a collector of what you have to help make a determination. Others will have a different opinion.

encapsulation makes sight unseen selling easier and maximizes price. the final decision should be your own, though.

  • To be able to answer the question maybe it would be good to know what coins are being talked about .

there are some that for the novice I recommend be purchased in plastic, 14-D ,09-S VDB and other key dates that have been widely counterfeited/ altered .

Just about any other common date coin in grades 65 and below I don't really see the benefit .

<FONT style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #c0c0c0">Most coin shop owners deal with grading companies.
They will check your coins and answer two questions.
#1---Will the coins be accepted for grading?
    #2---Are the coins worth grading?
A no answer to either question means get a good
    photo and sell them raw.
