Casino Halves

I just went through a batch of half-dollars last night, and one of the boxes particularly surprised me: the reeding on probably 90% of all the coins inside was gone, and collectively they looked like they had gone through a rock tumbler, they were that beat up. The seven 40% silver halves I found were in pretty sorry shape as well, and looked like they'd been through a lot. Is it possible my bank had that box shipped in from a casino, or it gradually made its way there?

When I am in Vegas and need a break, I go play the nickel slots and cash out in nickels. Then, do a search on the coins. They don't seem to get the massive wear as in the halves going through the machines. And, you can pick up some early varieties.

    Probably,

I live in New Jersey and when I used to look through rolls of halves, I always thought that the coins that had their reeding pounded flat and looked really banged up came from casinos.

One time I found a roll whose wrapper had the name of a casino on it and all the coins in it had lost their reeding.

Our casinos have no coins. They use fake coin sounds though, to make people think others are winning.

I recently came across some halves with the pounded reeding as well.

Here's a question: Does use in slot machines count as circulation?
