Costa Rica, El Salvador & Honduras I collect

Hello all who have complete and partial registry sets. I salute you. I know the joys and frustrations you go through in obtaining them and upgrading them. Although, I think upgrading a coin you already have is even harder. Nevertheless, my topic is on Costa Rica. I had the pleasure of personally talking to BJ Searls and have expressed my interest in adding Costa Rica as one of the countries to the registry set. In doing so, I have taken the time out and have added my inventory in denomination order and condition, plus a few pictures here and there. Please take a moment when you can and view the Costa Rica Pride registry set. It has been years in the buying and getting them graded through PCGS. Every year I am proud to renew my platinum membership with PCGS.

Does any one have or know of people with Costa Rica silver proofs out there? I am trying my hardest to complete the whole silver series from 1970 to date. Many of the proof series from Costa Rica have the mint state series as well as the proof, thus making it harder for me to complete. My future goal is to obviously complete the series and then later see if I can get a pedigree.

When you get a moment take a look at all three sets that I have created:

1. Costa Rica Pride
2. El Salvador
3. Honduras

Comments and suggestions are always appreciated.

Again I would like to salute all of the proud members out there.

  • Excellent question try http://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/Showcases.aspx?c=109

You will see the three sets I have created plus their respective grades. Some not so good and others hit very high grades.

    Enjoy.

You can upload your own icon on the 15th of the month generally( It will be announced), there is a stash of already uploaded ones to chose from , that can be done with your " PROFILE" button up top. You can also turn on your PM.

Welcome, Errol! Those sets are pretty awesome!

On a side note: I see these listed under "Collector's Showcase" - how do you create a set under that category?
  • Is this Roamin Roman? If so, hi, and if not hi anyway, it’s always good to talk to a fellow collector.

The first thing I did about my inventory is to contact BJ Searls. She was kind enough to walk me through this. BJ is in charge of the registry set, really nice person and easy to talk to.

Being the methodical person that I am I have a serialized inventory of the three countries in question. I also have a few scanned but not many, that’s a future project. BJ tells me that first I have to create an inventory. After you create an inventory then you create the showcase. This can only be accomplished after you are logged in as yourself with PCGS. I created the first showcase of Costa Rica. I then uploaded every single coin in my inventory in denomination value, lowest to highest. I will admit that at any given moment there are thousand of people connected to PCGS so this may take awhile as it did for me. Be patient, when it is all said and done you have several things going for you. One is you have a serialized inventory with PCGS that you can download at any given moment and import into excel. The second one is after you have scanned all of your coins you will have a picture database, both are very impressive and a feat to be proud of.

So if you are building a foreign collection I recommend it. I hope to meet interesting people along the way and complete remaining sets. Help is always welcome.

No, different Roman. I don't think Diane hangs out here.

    I'm a different Roman image

Thank you for the tips - I was able to set-up my own showcase!

My primary focus is the Mexican War of Independence, but I have great appreciation for all 8 Reales coins image

Here's my small showcase : 8 Reales Madness
  • Those 8 reales are super. I am in awe of the Peruvian one. I neglected to tell you that I collect the 8 reales from Guanajuato. I have about 10 of them now slabbed. Just the 8 reales ones I am interested in. I know your passion for the pieces of 8, I love them too.

Okay, I LOVE your Peruvuan 8 real...yes, I said it. Very impressed with your set and now the whole world can see them too.

Thank you for the compliment! image

I don't have any Guanajuato pieces from the War of Independence period, but would like to eventually get my hands on an example. That mint has quite a history throughout the war, being captured by different sides on different occasions. Also, I believe that was the mint that contained equipment created by insurgents that impressed the Royalist officers so much that they sent it to Mexico City to be used as a pattern from which new minting machinery could be built.

One slabbed example of later Republican coinage that I own is an 1842 AU58 from across the street (NGC), which, in my opinion, is about 8 points overgraded. I will be sending it in to PCGS in a batch of slabbed coins for crossover after the holidays.
  • ticoviejo, those are great sets!

  • Some day I plan to put more images and other countries too. Like I mentioned in a previous thread I also collect the 8 Reales from Guanajuato. Glad you liked my sets that I have out there thus far.
