New Purchase: 1883-O Champagne Gold & Pink (2 Sided Toned) Morgan Dollar

Here's a pretty 2-sided toner that I recently purchased at a local coin show, for your viewing pleasure. I'm very pleased with both the coin, and how well the digital photos turned out. image

Very interesting look on that one Stuart. You don't see too many with that shade of champagne colored patina. Nice looking coin. Great job once again!! image

  • I like this one.

Are the scratches on the holder?

I wonder if that turned pink in the holder. There are some substances that we know what they will
turn to over time. For instance, thumbing (oils of the skin) turn yellow/brown over time. Plumbers putty
will turn pink over time but it is done to hide the scuff marks on the cheek usually. Not likely that someone
would use plumbers putty on the entire coin. Weird, sorry for the ramble. Just wondering. It sure does
have KILLER eye appeal to me though! Perhaps I'll head off to Home Depot tomorrow morning and see
what might be available in the plumbing department!

Nice coin Stuart. I bet if you look under the eagle's tail, you will see a partial E struck through.................

<< Are the scratches on the holder? >>

greymars: In reply to your above quoted question, the white lines that you see in the digital image appear under magnification to be untoned lines, but do not seem to be scratches either on the coin surface, or on the plastic holder.

Where the coin does have some light contact mark scratches, they appear to be toned the same color as the surrounding fields.

Thanks Taho98! Something that isn't apparent from the photos I have posted, is that this coin not only possesses beautiful champagne golden and pink toning, but also has flashy semi-prooflike field surfaces which really illuminate the toning from underneath when the coin is rotated in light. image
