Does anyone here collect numismatic clichés?
I believe these are the same as splashers from what I can infer. Does anyone here collect these? Are these considered a subset of more mainstream collecting, or a particular specialty?

Oh, not those kind of cliches.
You can't get much more specialized that splashers. Jefferson called them "epreuves" or proofs. I own a few, all 18th century, though none are Comitia Americana cliches.
Most that exist likely come from either Jefferson's set of splashers or a set he brought back for James Madison. Portions of Jefferson's set were stolen from Monticello in 1798 by one of his slaves. Madison's letter to TJ thanking him for the splashers is priceless -- the first paragraph recounts that the delay in responding is due to an attack of diarrhea in Georgetown. Gee, thanks for the info Jimmy!
I formerly owned the splasher for the 1790 Diplomatic Medal that was ex. Bushnell-SH Chapman-Garrett-Ford, but have passed it on to a new owner.
Betts medals, colonial coins, US Mint medals, foreign coins found in early America, and other numismatic Americana

I don't laugh out loud at responses to threads too often, but this was one of those times.
