    Very interesting! image Looks like the press was in dire need of a ram adjustment. ( ram not being squared with press bed, but that would never happen at the mint)image

    If the coin is thinner in that area - I'd agree with the tapered planchet theory.

    Tapered planchet was my initial guess but the amount of denticles present is strange.

    I am not familiar with the U.S. mint processes at the time, however if the planchet was edged prior to striking, it would raise the edge on the tapered side, making the dentils fully struck...

    The other's are right - it's a Tapered Thin Planchet.

    The result from the planchet strip being thinner at
    that point where the blank was punched. It's usually
    at the beginning or end of the strip.

    It will weigh less than the 96 grains a normal 2C weighs.

    I'd guesstimate it will be about 89-91 grains, or thereabouts,
    based on the scans......
