What coin do you want, can afford, and cant find....
For me its a nice origional full rim NO PROBLEM 1901-S barber dime. ...well, there is that NGC MS64 that's dipped white in someone's ebay store, but I'd be more interested in a G to XF with an origional gray look.
I got a beautiful VF20 92-S barber dime in from JJTeaparty today. That sucker was hard to find also.

Apropos of the coin posse/aka caca: "The longer he spoke of his honor, the tighter I held to my purse."
(ie full mint luster cartwheel, orig toning, and no high point rub).
This has been on my want list since 1983 (when I was offering to pay $4000 for any gem from the 1840's (43,44,45,46,47 would be the dates most likely to be found). A simple 1843 or 1846 would make me happy as on paper those are the 2 easiest dates to find in higher grades. I'd like to own a real gem someday just to say I did it.
Sad part is that most of these have been cleaned or overly-handled so that the above requirements are rarely met. I've seen some in MS66 holders that had dull luster and a touch of rub which could be called 64 at best.

3. 1849-O quarter vf.
I have been searching for the above for at least 3-4 years and have attended major shows.
In the meantime, I found a nice...no problems...properly graded... 1859-O Seated Dollar in VF30
a nice...no problems...properly graded... 1873 Trade Dollar in AU50
a nice...no problems...properly graded... 1895 $5 Liberty in MS62
a nice...no problems...properly graded... 1832 Capped Bust Half in VF35
I guess I'm waiting for the right 1877 IHC...L

I have been looking for an 1839/6 large cent (N-1) in XF for years. I don't think one exists.

Don'tcha hate it when that happens?
An 1884 and 1885 3 cent nickel in AU.
id like to grab up a killer 1909vdb matte proof lincoln. maybe in a pcgs pr 62-64 brown, with nice ORIGINAL toning. no spots or marks and choice for the grade.
really good topic here...
Isn't that silly?
Apparently not.
Apparently it is so.
While not rubbed, take a gander at the Pittman 1844-0 25c in a 66 holder. It's one of the biggest
pieces of swill ever graded that high. First time I saw it at auction it fetched a measly $5000 (low 64 money)....and not worth it
to me. The Gene Edwards gem from a. 1982 ANA auction would be worthy of gem status today and probably
a $20K-40K price tag (that brought all of $3K as I recall in 1982....and I had no money at the time).
Ironically, someone stepped up and paid $13,000 for the Pittman 44-0 not too long ago. I wish them luck
with the holder (rather than the coin).

A raw 1950 DCAM proof half dollar, a raw CAM or DCAM 1950 proof quarter, and various other raw CAM or DCAM proof coins from 1950-70 contained in raw sets that I can purchase at bid from any dealer who considers these raw sets and coins to be widgets.
Regarding the 1830 SL cent, here is mine. Grade it as you please (NGC AU58 or EAC AG-3 ?
What coin can I afford but can't find? There are a lot of them, but how about an honest Gem MS65 1895-P Barber dime in a PCGS 65 holder?

1793 Half cent G-VG
1794 Cent G-VG
Common date draped bust half dime G-VG
1795 Flowing hair half dime G-VG
1795 Flowing hair and draped bust dollar, G-VG
Just nice honest examples of each. I can't afford to do all of the early stuff in high grade, so instead I'd kind of like it to match. I suspect that some day I'll have to go to some of the big shows to find ones with which I would be happy.

Sure. Competition is part of the equation.
