If only....

I was talking with my grandma (98 yrs old, totally mentally intact) about my new (less than one year) interest in coins. She recounted how she and my grandfather took a couple of thousand dollars in gold coins during the depression and hid them. She said that she planned to eventually re-deposit them once things settled out, but planned to save quite a few for the kids and grandkids. The maid stole them all. If only...

I hope the maid was prosecuted!? But, yeah, "if only".
I had a baby sitter walk off with 3 or 4 Walkers one time. We just never had her back again. They were loose in a sock drawer which means she went snooping - this was almost 40 years ago.

If only I had had enough common sense to go through the bags of silver dollars in the
hard count room of the casino I worked for in my teens. My only real interest was to
earn enough money to fuel my hormones! Dating, girls, fun, sleeping and lastly work.
I was paid in silver dollars and had my choice of any that I wanted. Just had to tell the
head cashier and she'd put it aside 'till payday for me. Don't get me wrong, I did save
a few hundred. But I still remember those UNOPENED bags on the floor in the corner.
Can't remember any dates (they all had dates on them and mint, too). Just if I only had
    the foresight!
