<< <i>I paid $1495 to acquire the coin from the Mint and I'm happy that my coin is still in OGP. >>
I would rather have a PCGS MS70 than a raw coin in OGP anyday, you can always crack the coin out and return it to the OGP, but you can't always do the opposite

Very true for PCGS graded coins, however my experience is the First Strike® designation will usually bring at least a 10% premium over the non First Strike® 70 of the same coin. With the PR70's the premium is usually even larger. For the additional $10 fee, I know which one I would rather have.

The market is very soft and I would NOT recommend selling anything right now. I say buy, buy, buy and one reason is that people are scared. They should be but the problem is that platinum is the least of their worries so buy during the frenzy and with platinum at 2K by next summer you will be very happy you did. Just do not sell now, unless it's to me.
i love how no one used the term coin in this whole thead. LOL.
depending on the price it turns back into bullion like cinderalla at midnight!
Let me think real hard......hmmmmmmmm........bullion........coin.........
..........bullion...........coin...........
Ah hah! Now I understand..........
If bullion goes up, I win! If my platinum proofs, or uncs, or burnished uncs, or reverse proofs go up, I win again!
And in the meantime, I get to look at nice stuff that isn't worn down on all of the high points, still has 100% original luster, and isn't known to be heavily counterfeited like the worn-out, washed-out, over-priced junk gold that they call "classic".
Oh, here's a coin with actual, original gold surfaces:

i was not trying to bash the darn things but simply making an observation. the people who talk about these things call them a coin one moment and bullion the next depending on price.

I wasn't bashing anything either. I was dead serious.

<< <i>So, with about $55 in final value fees to eBay, and about $50 in Pay Pal fees, the net on the sale would be about $1333.
Cost for regular submission $30, First Strike another $10.
So all in more than $200 below melt net of fees.
Just wait to see prices of the 10th Anniversary Plats come February! >>
He would have been better off cracking it out and shipping the coin to Kitco instead of the buyer. They are currently paying $1,472 to buy 1OZ APE's and all it would have cost him is about $20 in shipping the coin to Kitco. He probably could have sold the coin at melt to a coin shop too.

Very few coins actually bring a premium for the First Strike™ designation these days.

The First Strike® 70's are the ones that command a premium, there are far too many First Strike 69's for them to bring a premium.
